I am pleased to announce the following faculty and student honors and awards for Hunter College:

Faculty :

  • Dr. Roger Karapin, an Associate Professorin the Department of Political Science at HunterCollege, received the Charles Tilly Award for his book, Protest Politics in Germany: Movements on the Left and Right since the 1960s. In addition, his book was selected by the American Sociological Association’s Collective Behavior and Social Movements as the best book published for 2008.
  • Dr. Joan Tronto, a Professor in the Department of Political Science at Hunter College, is a co-winner of the first American Political Science Association Okin//Young award for the best paper in feminist theory published in a refereed journal.
  • Dr. Mark Spicer, an Associate Professor of Music at HunterCollege and the GraduateSchool, was selected as one of 45 scholars from around the world to be a Fellow at the 2008 Mannes Institute for Advanced Studies in Music Theory.
  • Dr. Jeffrey Parsons, a Professor in the Department of Psychology at HunterCollege, was awarded the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award for 2008 by the Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Issues of the American Psychological Association. The Division offers this award for distinguished theoretical or empirical contributions to lesbian, gay or bisexual psychological issues.
  • Dr. Jason Dictenberg, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Hunter College, received an award from the International Society for Developmental Neuroscience in recognition of his having submitted one the best five abstracts out of 700 applicants based on impact on the field of developmental neurobiology.
  • Dr. Randye Rutberg, a Professor in the Department of Geography at Hunter College, was appointed a Visiting Scientist at the NationalCenter for Atmospheric Research in Colorado for summer 2008.
  • Dr. William Solecki, an AssistantProfessor in the Department of Geography at HunterCollege, was elected as President of the Nature Network, New York metropolitan coalition of environmental education and science organizations.
