SALUQIS’ BASKETBALL TEAM RANKED BY NJCAA
Coming off a 28-7 season and an eighth-place finish in the 2007 NJCAA National Tournament, the Southwest basketball team has earned a number 13 ranking in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I pre-season poll.
Head Coach Verties Sails Jr. returns three part-time starters off last year’s Region VII championship team – 5’11” point guard Emmanuel Cheers and 6’5” forward A.J. Nance, both from Marion, Arkansas, and 6’0” guard Antonio Young, who prepped at Westwood High School in Memphis. The Saluqis also add three sophomore transfers who should contribute heavily to the success of this year’s team – 6’4” guard Dominique Johnson (St. Clair Community College), 6’7” forward Leon Martin (Vincennes University) and 6’9” Nick Stigger (Connors State College).
