Floriston Property Owner’s Association: Floriston Schoolhouse Restoration - $5,000

At the turn of the 19th Century the Crown Willamette Paper Company established a paper mill on the Truckee River. The mill and its hotel and hospital are gone now, but the town remains. Built in 1899, the Floriston Schoolhouse is the last remaining administrative building from the days when Crown Zellerbach ran the second largest paper mill in the world just below on the river. This request is to help restore the Floriston School House, which is used for town events.

Nevada City Community Broadcast Group (KVMR): Capital Equipment - $5,000

In 2007, KVMR was designated the official Emergency Broadcast station for the region, providing fire, weather and other essential coverage as events occur. On November 24, 2010, Nevada County experienced a large winter storm that caused a tree to fall on KVMR's transmission line, resulting in two extended unplanned outages and electrical surges that destroyed some of KVMR's transmission equipment. The damaged equipment cost the station $5,468.20 to replace.

North Lake Tahoe Historical Society: Keeping History Current - $5,000

The NLTHS requests funding to modernize historical film from VHS to DVD format and purchase equipment to record oral histories from local residents.
