POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARDS – 2017

Guidelines for application:

The Postgraduate Research Awards of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science (SLAAS) have been instituted to recognize and promote high quality research carried out by postgraduate students registered in Sri Lankan Universities or Research Institutes. The major part of the research should have been carried out in a University/Institution within Sri Lanka. Those who have been recipients of the postgraduate research award in a previous year are not eligible to apply again.

Eligibility:

  • Valid SLAAS membership for the year under consideration

and

  • Have completed the postgraduate degree (M.Sc./M.Phil./Ph.D., etc.) within the last 2 yearspreceding30thJune 2016from a Sri Lankan University/Institution.

Method of application:

The application form could be obtained from the SLAAS office, 120/10, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7 or the SLAAS website

Three (03) sets of following documents should be submitted to The General Secretaries, SLAAS Office, 120/10, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7, on or before 4.00 p.m. of 15th August 2017.

1. The CV and application form

2. List of publications with a self-evaluation on applicant’s contribution to publications

3. Copies of all publications

The Award:

All applications will be acknowledged. Awards will be based on the applicant’s publications on his/her postgraduate research. More credit will be given for publications in peer reviewed journals. Not more than one award will be given for each Section of SLAAS. Selected nominees for the award will be requested by the GRC to make an oral presentation on a pre-arranged date, to a panel of judges nominated by the GRC. An applicant must obtain a minimum of 55 marks for a Ph.D. and 40 marks for a M.Phil./M.Sc. to be considered for an award.

The decision of the SLAAS Council shall be final on any matter related to the awards. The awards will be presented at the opening ceremony of the Annual Sessions of the current year.
