Consultations
Safe Injection Sites:
Slide presentation attached as well as follow up materials
Comments:
Where are you thinking the site would be located – Location would be where the problem is worse
If people will not travel is there a possibility of shuttle – Germany has that model (Drug Bus)
Ideally this will become standard of care
How long are people able to stay once injected – ideally no time limit
Address police arguments that are anti-injection sites:
i. No opposite perspective in terms of the evidence
ii. Drugs are illegal however they support needle exchange
iii. Feels they are in a difficult position
First reaction as a family member is that I do not want to admit it exists (mean that there are numbers and problems in Ottawa) Over coming public fear
Policy Makers – letter from College of Nurses is within the current scope of practice of nurses in ON, Ministry exemption process needs to be followed
Is there persuasion that a body like AMHNC is supportive. Looking for allies.
If there is a need of this committee please come back to this committee / Rob Boyd
