Course Objectives:

Exercise and Health Science is an integral part of the total education program at O’Farrell. Our program is based on the premise that the quality and productivity of each individual’s life can be enhanced through participation in a comprehensive, sequential program that promotes physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

O’Farrell’s Physical Education course has been designed following the California Physical Education Framework. State mandated “Fitnessgram” testing will be administered in the spring of 2013 .

Course Assessment:

25% Participation/Effort

25% Sportsmanship

25% Prepared for class

25% Following the Falcon Way

Daily Preparation:

Students are required to dress out daily in the P.E. uniform.

1. Uniforms

a. The following items are required every day for each student in physical education:

-O’Farrell PE shirt and shorts (no street clothes allowed under uniforms!) which can be purchased atMario’s.

-white athletic socks

-supportive athletic shoes (not platform or backless shoes)

-gray sweats*, blue O’Farrell sweatshirts are not appropriate P.E. apparel.

-hygiene items such as deodorant

-optional - towel, skin lotion, plastic bag, etc.

*Gray sweats are optional but highly recommended for cold weather.

b. Lockers will be assigned approximately the second week of school. Locks are built-in to the lockers, so students do not need to bring pad-locks. Students are required to have their uniform by Monday, Sept.17.

c. Students will be required to wear loaner clothes if they forget their clothes. Students without P.E. uniforms will be given one loaner per grading period without being penalized. Further use of loaners will result in disciplinary action and the lowering of the student’s grade.

d. Due to security concerns, students are not allowed to share lockers.

Please note that shared lockers are the #1 cause of missing and stolen clothes.

e. P.E. clothes are to be taken home and cleaned the last day of each school week.

They must be returned the first day of each week.

2. Make-up Mile

Make-up mile sessions are held throughout the year. Students who need to earn back credit for non-suits or loaners need to attend and must complete the mile in under 12 minutes.

Illness and Injury Notes:

A student may be excused from class with a written note from a parent or guardian for up to 3 consecutive days. Excused students are expected to suit-up for class. A note from a medical doctor will be required for further non-participation in physical education.
