PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1  RELATED DOCUMENTS

Retain or delete this article in all Sections of Project Manual.

1.2  SUMMARY

1.3  PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS

Retain "Preinstallation Conference" Paragraph below if Work of this Section is extensive or complex enough to justify a conference.

  1. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at [Project site] <Insert location>.

Retain subparagraph below if additional requirements are necessary.

  1. Review methods and procedures related to carpet installation including, but not limited to, the following:

Retain first subparagraph for occupied buildings if delivery must be controlled and coordinated, for example, for tenant spaces in occupied office buildings with multiple tenants.

  1. Review delivery, storage, and handling procedures.
  2. Review ambient conditions and ventilation procedures.
  3. Review subfloor preparation procedures.
  4. Follow manufacturer's broadloom sheet carpet installation guidelines and/or The Carpet and Rug Institute Installation Standard104.

If needed, insert list of conference participants not mentioned in Section013100 "Project Management and Coordination."

1.4  ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product.
  2. Include manufacturer's written specifications.
  3. Include manufacturer's written installation recommendations for each type of substrate.
  4. Include carpet maintenance recommendations as outlined by manufacturer.
  5. Include plan for recycling the specified carpet at the end of useful life of carpet.
  6. Shop Drawings: For carpet installation, showing the following:

Retain, delete, or revise subparagraphs below to suit Project.

  1. Columns, doorways, enclosing walls or partitions, built-in cabinets, and locations where cutouts are required in carpet.
  2. Carpet type, color, and dye lot.

Retain first subparagraph below only for large installations where multiple dye lots are unavoidable.

  1. Locations where dye lot changes occur.
  2. Seam locations, types, and methods.
  3. Type of subfloor.
  4. Type of installation.
  5. Pattern type, repeat size, location, direction, and starting point.
  6. Pile direction.
  7. Types, colors, and locations of insets and borders.
  8. Types, colors, and locations of edge, transition, and other accessory strips.
  9. Transition details to other flooring materials.
  10. Samples: For each of the following products and for each color and texture required. Label each Sample with manufacturer's name, material description, color, pattern, and designation indicated on Drawings and in schedules.
  11. Carpet: 12-inch- (300-mm-) square Sample.
  12. Exposed Edge, Transition, and Other Accessory Stripping: 12-inch- (300-mm-) long Samples.
  13. Carpet Seam: 6-inch (150-mm) Sample.

Retain "Mitered Carpet-Border Seam" Subparagraph below if applicable.

  1. Mitered Carpet-Border Seam: 12-inch- (300-mm-) square Sample. Show carpet pattern alignment.
  2. Product Schedule: For carpet. Use same designations indicated on Drawings.

Retain "Sustainable Product Certification" Paragraph below to require certification of environmental impact of flooring, or if pursuing LEED or other well-building certifications (LEED 2009 NC, CI, and CS; LEEDv4; IgCC, ASHRAE189.1; and Green Globes).

  3. Provide Cradle-to-Cradle™ Silver certification.
  4. Provide Declare label, red list compliant.

1.5  INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Coordinate "Qualification Data" Paragraph below with qualification requirements in Section014000 "Quality Requirements" and as may be supplemented in "Quality Assurance" Article.

  1. Qualification Data: For Installer.
  2. Product Test Reports: For carpet, for tests performed by a qualified independent testing agency.

1.6  CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

  1. Maintenance Data: For carpet to include in maintenance manuals. Include the following:
  2. Methods for maintaining carpet, including cleaning and stain-removal products and procedures and manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule.
  3. Precautions for cleaning materials and methods that could be detrimental to carpet.

1.7  QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Manufacturer Qualifications:

Shaw Contract will pick-up and recycle EcoWorx Broadloom and EcoWorx Performance Broadloom free of charge for quantities of at least 500 sq. yd. (418 sq.m).

  1. Demonstrated commitment to sustainability (recycling, reuse, conservation, and source reduction) through a reporting document such as an annual sustainability report that contains third-party verification and confirmation.
  2. Installer Qualifications: An experienced installer who is certified by the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association at the [CommercialII] [MasterII] <Insert description> certification level.

Indicate area of floors represented by mockups on Drawings or draw mockups as separate elements.

  1. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under Sample submittals, to demonstrate aesthetic effects, and to set quality standards for fabrication and installation.
  2. Build mockups at locations and in sizes shown on Drawings.

Retain subparagraph below if the intention is to make an exception to the default requirement in Section014000 "Quality Requirements" for demolishing and removing mockups.

  1. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion.

1.8  DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. Comply with carpet manufacturer's installation recommendations and The Carpet and Rug Institute Installation Standard104.
  2. Deliver carpet in original mill protective covering with mill register numbers and tags attached.

1.9  FIELD CONDITIONS

  1. Comply with carpet manufacturer's installation recommendations and The Carpet and Rug Institute Standard104 for temperature, humidity, and ventilation limitations.
  2. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install carpet until spaces are enclosed and weathertight, wet-work in spaces is complete and dry, and ambient temperature and humidity conditions are maintained at levels planned for building occupants during the remainder of the construction period.
  3. HVAC system should be operational and running prior to carpet installation and should remain running after carpet installation.

Retain first paragraph below if products are adhesively applied to concrete substrates. Revise to suit Project.

  1. Do not install carpet over concrete slabs until slabs have cured and are sufficiently dry to allow bond between adhesive and concrete, and concrete slabs should have moisture and pH readings that are within specified tolerance of the adhesive to be used.
  2. Where demountable partitions or other items are indicated for installation on top of carpet, install carpet before installing these items.

1.10  WARRANTY

  1. Special Warranty for Carpet: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of carpet installation that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.
  2. Warranty does not include deterioration or failure of carpet due to unusual traffic, failure of substrate, vandalism, or abuse.
  3. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:
  4. More than 10 percent loss of face fiber.
  5. Loss of tuft bind strength.
  6. Excess static discharge.
  7. Edge ravel.
  8. Delamination.
  9. Where face fiber is 100 percent solution dyed, inability to remove acid-based stains.
  10. Where face fiber is 100 percent solution dyed, lack of colorfastness to atmospheric contaminants.

Carpet and fiber must be manufactured and warranted by same manufacturer.

Verify available warranties and warranty periods for carpet.

For product designated in "Basis-of-Design Product" Paragraph in Part2, insert the appropriate value from "Warranty" column of "Shaw Contract Group Broadloom Sheet Carpet Reference Table" in "Warranty Period" Subparagraph below.

  1. Warranty Period: [Ten-Year Limited Warranty] [Lifetime Limited Warranty] years from date of Substantial Completion.
  2. Installer Warranty: One year.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

Before inserting names, verify that manufacturers and products listed there comply with requirements retained or revised in descriptions and are both available and suitable for the intended applications. 2.1  TUFTED BROADLOOM SHEET CARPET <Insert designation

Copy this article and re-edit for each product.

Insert drawing designation. Use these designations on Drawings to identify each product.

To designate carpet product in "Basis-of-Design Product" Paragraph below, insert appropriate product number and name from "Product Number and Name" column of "Shaw Contract Group Broadloom Sheet Carpet Reference Table," which is included at end of Section.

  1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Shaw Contract Group; <Insert product name or designation or comparable product by one of the following:
  2. Bolyu.
  3. J&J Invision; J&J Industries, Inc.
  4. Mohawk Group (The); Mohawk Carpet, LLC.
  5. Tandus; a Tarkett company.
  6. Insert manufacturer's name>.
  7. Source Limitations:
  8. Single Source Responsibility: Provide products that have components manufactured by a single source. For example, fiber and backing, as well as final carpet product, should be manufactured and warranted by same company.

Generally, retain "Color" Paragraph below unless they are described by product designation inserted above.

  1. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range.
