2016Deben Open Meet -Head Coach Report
In a hugely successful Deben Open meet 57 swimmers took part in 337 individual events, where they achieved around 72% PBs, of which 134 were County times and 12 were Regional times. At this early stage in the season Deben already has36 swimmers with 2017 County times and 5 swimmers with 2017Regional times with many more close to achieving!
This year’s meet again started with the 800FC and 1500FC events where our swimmers excelled with some great PB’s and achieved 3 County times of which one swimmer also had a Regional qualifying time!
As usual, with so many swimmers doing so well it would be unfair to mention only a few. I will however announce that the President’s Award for the Deben Open goes to Ella Houston
from the AGP Squad.
Ella achieved her first ever Regional time – in the 400IM no less!! Not only that but now has 12 County times! Well done Ella!
This has been a really great start to the season where we already exceed the number of County qualifiers we had last year! With the Deben Open being pulled forward by 1 month I wasn’t sure how well an early season meet would go. I need not have worried since the standard of swimming was outstanding and exceeded expectations.
In my opinion this was one of the most successful Deben Open meets we have had in recent years. There were so many races where at the end I just said WOW! For those who raced so hard against each other, to those who really attacked the race from start to finish, for those who PB’d and for those who showed how well they were transferring good training skills into races – a big THANK YOU to you all. A few are shown below!
It was also great to see the new club captains of Matthew Anderson, Archie Brigginshaw, Meg Claydon and Lewis Moore really make a difference poolside with help leading the land warm ups and setting a great example. Thank you for your help.
Abig THANK YOU goes out to Kieran Whight and Kevin Hall who helped me poolside over the whole weekend. Both are now level 2 coaches and making a real difference to the coaching team which also consists of Nigel Abbott, Karen Davies, Dawn Foskett, Jon Harris and Rob Ward. Thank you to all for your help and support to the club and the swimmers.Thank you also to the volunteers poolside and in the hall who helped bring this event together so successfully.
Well done to all who took part in this year’s Deben Open. Keep up the good work!
