Maxwell Brooks Dyslexia Scholarship

AMOUNT AND TERM OF AWARD:

The scholarship is intended to supplement the unmet cost of tuition. The annual amount is determined by earnings from the endowment provided funds are available. Award amount for 2018/2019 is $1,000.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR RECEIVING SCHOLARSHIP:

  • Must be a full-time, upper level student with at least 30 completed hours.
  • Minimum Overall GPA of 2.75.
  • Must be an Arkansas resident. FIRST preference given to a student from Craighead County.
  • Application must include. Proof to the selection committee use of services provided by the Disability Services office and other resources on campus such as tutor services, advising services, individual meetings with faculty, etc.
  • Two letters of recommendation from an adult (non-relative) who can testify to academic abilities, character, and volunteer experience: a principal, school counselor, or teacher, and another from a non-relative adult who has known the applicant more than six months.
  • Brief essay/bio about the positive impact of having dyslexia.

Scholarship Criteria

John T. Clements III Memorial Scholarship

Arkansas State University Foundation, Inc.

AMOUNT AND TERM OF AWARD:

Minimum annual award of $500, payable of $250 per academic semester. Award amount for 2018/2019.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR RECEIVING SCHOLARSHIP:

  • Scholarship is established for students with profound physical disabilities, with preference given to students with Cerebral Palsy.
  • Recipients can be incoming freshman or currently enrolled full-time with a minimum of 2.5 overall GPA (4.0 scale).
  • There are no restrictions on major or geographic origin.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAINTAINING THE SCHOLARSHIP:

Scholarship may be renewed through graduation, provided recipient continues to be a full-time student with a 2.5 overall GPA (4.0 scale).

OTHER COMMENTS:

Publicity to be coordinated through University Communications.

SELECTION MADE BY:

Applicants should apply through the ASU disability Services Office, who will forward application with certification of scholarship eligibility to the ASU Scholarship Committee for recipient selection for the following year.

Single Parents Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

If you are a returning scholarship applicant and have continuously received scholarships each Spring and Fall since Spring 2017, continue to follow the guidelines under which you entered our program. If you are a new applicant or did not receive a scholarship during Fall 2017 followour current eligibility criteria.

REQUIRED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS

The following documents are required and must be submitted with your completed application form by the application deadline(above). Use the Upload Tool found in the Supporting Documents section of the application to attach the documents. Be sure to attach these documents to your application before you submit it.

2018 Ralph G. Norman Scholarship
The Learning Disabilities Association of Arkansas is seeking applicants for the 2018 Ralph G. Norman Scholarship, which is awarded in the amount of $2,500 to an individual with a documented learning disability who will be enrolled in the Fall 2018 at a university, two-year community college, or a vocational/technical training program.
The ideal scholarship recipient is an individual who:
• Recognizes and understands his or her learning disability and is able to self-advocate when necessary
• Is committed to pursuing higher academic study or career training and has begun to set realistic career goals
• Is committed to achieving personal goals despite the challenges of a learning disability
• Participates in school and community activities

Ruby’s Rainbow Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • This grant is for individuals with Down syndrome who are 18 years of age or older.
  • Desire and intent to enroll or continue enrollment in a class or program that will enhance your life through employment, independent living or life skills, or interests in any other areas. Programs must be within the United States at this time.
  • Provide copy of High School Diploma or equivalent (certificate of completion) or transcripts if graduating in the spring of this year.
  • Individuals who were previously awarded a Ruby’s Rainbow scholarship may now apply the following year by filling out our Re-Apply Application.

Mays Mission Scholarship Program

Mays Mission offers scholarships to deserving students with physical and/or mental disabilities.

To qualify for a Mission scholarship one must be able to document a significant disability, score of 18 or better on the A.C.T or 870 on S.A.T., be enrolled in a four-year study program (under-graduate only) working toward a baccalaureate degree and provide proof of enrollment.

Upon acceptance to our program, recipients agree to provide proof of full-time enrollment each semester, submit grades, maintain a GPA of 2.3 and write an "update letter" providing the Mission with information pertaining to grades, struggles, triumphs, campus life and a general "how are you doing" letter.

Teresa Haven Scholarship for Students with Disabilities from ATHEN (Access Technology in Higher Education Network).

Incight Scholarship Award:

Incight has awarded more than 800 scholarships to students with disabilities pursuing post-secondary education attending community college, 4-year universities, vocational school and Masters and Doctoral programs. For tuition purposes, student must be considered a resident of Oregon, Washington, or California. The application for the academic year will open December 1and close on April 1, 2018.

Women’s Independence Scholarship:

A woman who meets the following requirements is eligible to apply for WISP:
* Survived intimate partner abuse & has been separated from their abuser a minimum of one year, but not more than seven;

* Is a citizen or permanent legal resident (eligible for FAFSA) of the United States;
* Has applied to or is officially accepted into an accredited course of study at a United States institution;
* Demonstrates a critical need for financial assistance;
* Exhibits a strong desire and the ability to complete a training and/or academic program;
* Has a definite plan to use the desired training to upgrade skills for career advancement, to train for a new career field, or to enter or reenter the job market; and
* Has sought services from a non-profit, domestic violence agency for a minimum of 6 consecutive months, and this agency is willing act as sponsor by mentoring and providing support to the student throughout her educational experience.

There is no deadline but it takes them about 2-3 months to review application so turn it in as soon as possible.

Academic Challenge Scholarships

The Academic Challenge Program provides scholarships to Arkansas residents pursuing a higher education. Funded in large part by the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, the Academic Challenge Scholarship is available to students regardless of their academic status, whether just graduating from high school, currently enrolled in college, enrolling in college for the first time, or re-enrolling after a period of time out of college.

To apply for the College JumpStart Scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

1) High school 10th-12th grader, college student or non-traditional student;

2) U.S. citizen or legal resident;

3) Attend or plan to attend an accredited 2-year, 4-year or vocational / trade school in the U.S.

4) Be committed to using education to better your life and that of your family and/or community.

The MoolahSPOT $1000 Scholarship

The $1,000 MoolahSPOT Scholarship is sponsored by MoolahSPOT.com and helps students of any age pay for higher education. The scholarship is a competition based on a short essay. Family income, grades and test scores are not used in selecting a winner. The award must be used for any education-related expenses such as tuition, fees, books and room and board.

Who is Eligible:Any student at least 16 years or older who plans to attend, or is currently attending, college or graduate school. Students may be of any nationality and reside in any country. Students may study any major or plan to enter any career field at any accredited college or graduate school. Although applicants can be from any country, all applications must be completed in English.

Deadline:All entries must be submitted byApril 30, 2018. Only applications submitted electronically will be accepted and any incomplete applications will be disqualified.

How to Enter:To enter the scholarship, please complete the following scholarship application. If you submit more than one application within the competition period, only your latest entry will be judged. Winners will be notified by mail and e-mail approximately 8 weeks after the deadline. Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund

ELIGIBILITY

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund aids people active in movements for social and economic justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to students who are able to do academic work at the college or university level or are enrolled in a trade or technical program and who are active in the progressive movement. Early recipients worked for civil rights, against McCarthyism and for peace in Vietnam. Recent grantees have been active in the struggle against racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of oppression; building the movement for economic justice; and creating peace through international anti-imperialist solidarity. Applicants must have participated in activities in the US, and there is a strong preference for applicants who plan on working in this country.

The maximum grant available from the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund is $10,000 per year (from July 1 through June 30). Grants are disbursed to cover each separate semester, quarter or term during which the grantee is attending school. Grants must be used in the year they are awarded and cannot be deferred or carried over. Recipients must reapply each year support is sought. Applications must be submitted no later than April 1. Applicants will be informed of decisions in July.

The Live Más Scholarship is available to innovators, creators, and dreamers between the ages of 16 and 24. To be considered, you must create and submit a video of up to two minutes in length that tells the story of your life’s passion.

Project Yellow Light Video Contest Scholarship

Available to:College Freshmen through College Seniors
Award Amount:6 Awards from $1,000 – $5,000

The Project Yellow Light Video Contest Scholarship is available to high school juniors and seniors and full – time undergraduate students. To be considered, you must create a 25 or 55 second video that discourages distracted driving, specifically texting while driving.
