Independent Reading Homework Assignment

Each week you will get a new Reading Log sheet.

You will record the books you read at school and at home.

Reading logs will be due back at school each Monday.

You need to read for at least 15 minutes four nights a week at home.

Please record the title, author, genre and pages read on your reading log.

You also need to respond to your reading in writing three times during the week.

You can use (“) to show the same title is being read on a different night.

H= read at home and S= read at school.

date / H/S / title / author / genre / pages read
9/3/08 / S / Bunnicula / James Howe / mystery / 1-20
9/4/08 / H / “ / “ / “ / 21-35

Use the Responding to Reading prompts to help you with the response part of the log. There are prompts for fiction and nonfiction.

When you write your responses just write the date in the left hand column.

Then take as much space as you need to write your response.

The responses do not need to be long, but they should be written in complete sentences and include some detail.

Two or three sentences should be enough for most responses.

Responding to Reading Prompts

Write your response in complete sentences. Remember to explain your answer clearly.

You can choose from these prompts, but you may not repeat a question during the week.

Some questions might not work all the time, so just choose another.
