What really drove the men and women
behind Pauline Hanson’s One Nation?
Scott Balson has compiled a unique CD for university libraries, historians, students and anyone else interested in politics. Balson, who lived in Ipswich, was the web master for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation from the launch of the party to the time it started dramatically imploding in November 1999. The interactive, browser-based, CD has a massive library of information looking at issues from the One Nation perspective. It is this perspective, frozen in time, which makes this CD unique and unadulterated by a hostile media, blatant censorship and negative one-sided opinions. To understand the party you need understand what drove the people behind One Nation – and that is exactly what this CD records.
Balson was recognized by the media in 1998 as establishing Pauline Hanson as Australia’s first cyber politician. Political reporters like Margo Kingston, in her book “Off the rails”, reflects on his innovative role in the use of the Internet when she records Balson’s comments on the eve of the 1998 Queensland State Elections, “With the Internet, it is going to be very interesting in three years’ time to see how that election is fought. What I’ve been doing is just a taste.” Balson has also written four research-based books – see:
QUOTE:“This CD is a very useful and comprehensive resource for scholars wishing to study the origins of Pauline Hanson's One Nation. It brings together a variety of material which Scott Balson originally assembled as One Nation's webmaster, as a party insider, and a keen chronicler of the party's early years.
“It will be an invaluable resource for postgraduate and honours students in political science and history writing theses on the emergence and character of One Nation.”
Prof Ian Ward, School of Politics, University of Queensland, St Lucia
