Academic Grading:

Summative Assessments (CBAs, Tests, Projects, Other Major Assignments) / 50%
Formative Assessments (Daily Work, Classwork, Checkpoints, Homework, Notebooks, Labs, Journals) / 50%

Pre-AP Grading:

Late/Make-up Work Policy: Students are expected to make up missed assignments and/or tests after absences. Each student should have all make-up work/tests completed within 1 week of returning to school. The student should plan to attend tutorials to ensure that they master the skills covered during their absence. The student is responsible for obtaining any and all missed assignments from me and to check with fellow classmates for notes taken during the absence.

Academic Dishonesty Policy: Academic misconduct of any kind is unacceptable and will result in disciplinary consequences. The student’s parent will be notified, and the student will be given an alternate assignment. The maximum grade a student can earn on the alternate assignment is a 70%. Repeated offenses may jeopardize the student’s ability to successfully complete the course.

Instructional Goals: Students are expected to improve over the year based on various forms of assessments. Parents will receive notification via phone, email, Skyward, progress reports, etc. of how their child is performing.

Consequences: Consequences include, but are not limited to, student/teacher conference, lunch detention, after school detention, calling the parent during class/parent contact or extra graded assignment(s). The consequence will depend on the offense. Disrespect will not be tolerated.

Conferences and Grade notification: You may contact me anytime by phone or email. I will try and get back to you within 24 hours. During instruction a phone call may go directly to voice mail. I will be happy to meet with you regarding your child and his/her progress. Your child will bring home progress reports at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and a final report card at each 9 week period.

Family Conference Time: As a family, we are available to meet on Thursdays 7:20 am – 7:55 am.

Family Classroom Expectations:

1.  Be prepared.

2.  Be on time and ready to begin when the bell rings.

3.  Be kind, respectful, and courteous to EVERYONE at ALL times.

Science Class Rules:

1.  Bring ALL materials and stay on task.

2.  Follow all directions.

3.  Use only INDOOR voices.

4.  Give only respectful comments to others.

5.  Use electronic devices only when instructed to do so. (see School-wide policy below)

6.  No eating or drinking in class. The Science Lab is generally NOT a safe place to eat food.

Science Classroom Supplies: For Science your student will need the following:

·  A 100 or 150 page hard cover binder, or designate a section of a larger binder specifically for Science.

·  A pencil for every day,

·  2 pkgs of college ruled loose-leaf notebook paper

YOU WILL NEED YOUR BINDER EVERY DAY. YOU WILL NEED A PENCIL EVERY DAY. By coming to class prepared we can maximize the class time we spend on SUPER-COOL science activities!

Cell Phones/Electronic Devices: Cell phones and other electronic devices may only be used at the discretion of the teacher. Please make sure they are OFF while walking in the hallways and when entering class. Cell phones/MP3 players must be put away and not visible during class if they are not being used with permission for instructional purposes. If we are using electronic devices, I will clearly display my desire for them to be ready when class starts.

Material to be Covered: 7th Grade Science covers a lot material, all of which is, in my opinion, incredibly interesting! Hopefully, I will be able to instill some of the same excitement I have for the material into your student this year!

First 9 Weeks / Second 9 Weeks / Third 9 Weeks / Fourth 9 Weeks
Intro to Process Skills and Scientific Method / Human Body Systems / Human Body Systems (continued) / Flow of Energy in Living Systems (continued)
Cells / Space/Manned Space Accommodations / Identification of Species and Variations in Species
Heredity / Forces in Nature/ Responses to Internal and External Stimuli / Organisms in Environments
Interactions between Matter and Energy / Weathering Erosion and Deposition in TX Ecoregions
Flow of Energy in Living Systems / Natural Events and Human Activity in Earth Systems

Weekly Expectations: Warm-Up activities will be completed daily and turned in weekly for a grade. These quickly add up, so it is very important to get to class ON TIME and get the Warm-Up completed and even more important to actually turn it in on Friday!

Restroom Passes: Please use the restroom during your time between classes. I will allow you to go to the restroom during class only for emergencies. Only 2 emergencies per 9 weeks will be allowed.

Remind 101: Please see the attached letter about how to subscribe to Remind 101 so you can stay up-to-date with deadlines and classroom information.
