The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m., by Dr. Kimberly Staples.

Dr. Warren White moved to approve minutes fromOctober 25 meeting, seconded by Dr. Rankin.

Dr. Doris Wright-Carroll introduced LucieHerbatova,she is being welcomed back from Prague, Czech Republic, where she completed a project similar to “A Walk in My Shoes” documentary. She will be visiting us throughout the week.

Standing Committee Reports

  1. Academic Affairs – Dr. Brad Burenheide
  • Practicum descriptions update for EDSEC 531, 533, 535, 537, 539, 541, 543, 545, and 547, Dr. Burenheide moved approval, motion passes.
  • Course description change to EDCEP 864, Dr. Burenheide moved approval, motion passes.
  • EDCI 719 course addition to the TELRN certificate,Dr. Burenheide moved approval, motion passes.
  1. Faculty Affairs – Dr. Jessica Lane
  • Currently accepting nominations for the two awards, Excellence in Advising and Commerce Bank’s Excellence in UndergraduateTeaching, nominations are due byDec. 9th.
  1. Student Affairs – Dr. Andrew Wefald
  • Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Awardeeswere announced.
  1. Diversity for Community – No report

E.Technology – Dr. Ann Knackendoffel

  • Technology updates in classrooms are currently underway.Some of the updates took place over Thanksgiving break while others will happen over winter break.
  • Two sessions of iBook trainings have taken place, great resource for those working on e-learning skills.
  • Jan. 13th is the next iPad camp in Bluemont.

Other Reports

  1. Faculty Senate - Dr. JacquelineSpears
  • Undergrad Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning has been approved.
  • The various weapons policies have come before the Board of Regents, and there is a very diverse perspective across the Regents.
  • Provost Mason has been asked to address issues of diversity. The President of Diversity position will be delayed in filling due to the new announcement of President.
  • Campus climate has been a big conversation and continues.

  3. Continuing Education – Rosemary Boggs
  • Spring enrollment is going strong, 95 courses are set up and currently 718 enrollments. Marketing is ongoing and the Summer 2017 courses are being listed.

  3. Library – Laura Bonella
  • The Remnant Trust exhibit is on display until the end of the semester when it leaves campus.

Announcements

  • Dr. Staples reported Dr. Yanke would like to share that Dean Mercer has agreed to pay the registration to the FTE Spring Workshop.

Dean’s Report

  • Thank you for those who came to the meeting to our new President, and for all your flexibility in the work being done to keep the College of Education relevant.
  • TheCounseling Education, Science Education and Math Education searches are still to continue, however a hold has been put on the search for Associate Dean for Research.
  • Undergraduate enrollment has declined again for the second year in the row.
  • There have been a couple of one-time cuts that will turn into a base cut next year, between 1.7-2%.
  • Unclaimed property in KEPERS might offer significant money, but we are still looking at that.
  • The Provost is very supportive of strategic budget cuts and in the future on our campus, metrics across the board might be considered. Head count and credit hour production are two possible metrics.
  • Announced invitation for all to attendthe holiday party next week.

Guest Presenter: Dr. Camilla Roberts, Associate Director, Honor and Integrity System

  • Last year had the highest violations of cases reported, 309 cases (359 students), of those 49 students were either not responsible or the cases were dropped.
  • Trends within academic dishonesty (Craigslist, Test banks/Assignment banks, study blue/Study soup, free-lance websites, online solution manuals, online math solving)
  • Call to action
  • Discuss with students/classes what is unauthorized collaboration and how do you avoid plagiarism?
  • Report cases (continued education, tracking multiple violators)
  • Continue to discuss with students the necessity of academic integrity as it translates outside of the classroom into ethics in the workplace
  • Educate students of all levels (classroom presentations)

Dr. JudyHughey shared a huge thank you for those who contributed to the All University Campaign.
