Abstract:

As we achieve data liquidity across multiple platforms via ubiquitous EHR adoption and Health Information Exchange (HIE), we will enter new strategic terrain for Health Information Technology (IT). Under this new framework, skillful application of healthcare analytics, data visualization, care coordination and population health will become the dominant discriminators of effective utilization of Health IT resources.

About John Halamka, M.D., M.S.

Dr. John D. Halamka, MD, MS has more than 30 years of Health IT experience. He serves as Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In that capacity, Dr. Halamka is responsible for all clinical, financial, administrative and academic information technology serving 14,000 employees, including 3,000 doctors, and 2 million patients. He has also served as CIO and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Chair of the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), and as Member of the Board of Directors and/or Advisors for numerous Health IT companies and organizations including Epocrates, Inc. , Imprivata, Inc., Humedica, Inc., Anvita, Inc., Forerun, Inc., Medem, Inc., Healthline Networks, Inc., PositiveID Corporation and OSEHRA, Inc.. Dr Halamka is also Chief Executive Officer of MA-SHARE, CIO of Harvard Clinical Research Institute (HCRI) and Chairman of the New England Health Electronic Data Interchange Network (NEHEN). Dr. Halamka is a practicing Emergency Physician. In 2013, Dr. Halamka was named CIO of the Year by Boston Business Journal and Mass High Tech. Dr. Halamka holds a a B.S in Microbiology and Public Policy from Stanford University, an M.D. from the University of California, San Francisco, and an M.S. in bioengineering from Harvard Medical School.
