Gummy Bear Catapult Report(sample outline)
(your names)
- Introduction: (2-3 Paragraphs) Summary of experiment which included identifying the experimental units, factors, treatments, summary of the 3 design experimental design components , and tests (by name) used.
This experiment had us design a Gummy Bear Catapult and analyze….
We did a … inference test and a … confidence interval….
Inference Analysis: (Write in paragraph form. You do not need to provide the actual formulas since you are clearly naming the tests and using technology to find the appropriate statistics).
- We chose a 2 sample t-test for µ1-µ2.
Our parameters were µ1= true mean distance (cm) that the gummy bear flies in the controlled setting versus µ2= true mean distance (cm) that the gummy bear flies in the treatment (elevated) setting.
The conditions were checked. The gummy bears were randomly assigned to each treatment. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume the treatments are independent and the bears within each treatment are independent. After reviewing the histograms for each of our treatments, the 2 graphs showed distributions that were roughly symmetric with no outliers. Therefore the normal condition was met.
Our null hypothesis was that there would be no difference between our 2 treatments. And our alternate hypothesis was changing the elevations will make the gummy bear go a farther distance. Since we did not identify a significance level in our project worksheet we used the standard alpha= .05.
Our inference test statistics were t=-11.42, df≈19.52, p-value≈ 0. Therefore we reject the null hypothesis since our p-value was so small; and conclude that the angle of the launch pad has a significant influence on how far the gummy bear flies from the catapult.
- We chose a 95% confidence t-interval for µ1-µ2.
The 95% confidence t-interval for the difference between µ1 - µ2 is –113.6cm to 57.3cm. The conditions were check in the above inference test. This means we are 95% confidence that the true difference between the control treatment and the elevated treatment is between –113.6cm to 57.3cm.
Interpretation of Results (2-4 short paragraphs)
The first paragraph compares the 2 treatments (remember cuss and bs)
The next paragraphs discuss your conclusions based on the results of the inference test and confidence interval. How do these relate? What do they mean?
