GOLF WORLD ANNOUNCES RESULTS OF

WOMEN’S DIVISION I COLLEGE COACHES’ POLL

UCLA Claims Top Spot

(NEW YORK, NY)—The latest Golf World/NGCA Division I College Women’s Coaches’ Poll has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II and III, will appear in the October 3, 2011 issue of Golf World and is live now:

UCLA remained atop the Golf World/NGCA Division I women’s coaches’ poll, claiming 16 of the 21 available first-place votes. Voting had closed prior to the Bruins playing in their first tournament of the season, the Mason Rudolph Fall Preview, but the defending NCAA champs proved worthy of their ranking with a six-stroke victory at the course that will host the 2012 NCAA Championship, Vanderbilt Legends Club outside of Nashville.
USC kept its No. 2 spot in the poll while LSU moved up from fourth to third thanks to a victory at the Cougar Fall Classic.
Alabama and North Carolina round out the top five.
Florida and Georgia joined the top 10. The No. 9 Gators finished third at the Cougar Fall Classic while the No. 10 Bulldogs finished fourth.
Three new teams joined the top 25: No. 19 Oklahoma State (winner of the Dale McNamara Invitational), No. 20 UC Davis (winner of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic) and No. 23 N.C. State (winner of the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup). The No. 20 ranking is the highest that UC Davis has ever placed in the Golf World poll while it’s the first time that N.C. State has ever made an appearance in the poll since it was revived in 2001-02.
