Developments at Nature Clinical Practice

Nature Publishing Group (NPG) today expanded the Nature Clinical Practice series with the launch of four additional journals in Endocrinology & Metabolism, Rheumatology, Nephrology and Neurology. Other progress with the Nature Clinical Practice journals include the introduction of mobile service, acceptance into several indexing databases and an alliance with the European School of Oncology (ESO).

“Following the successful launch of Nature Clinical Practice in November 2004, the program has been extended to include four new titles - all designed to save busy physicians time by filtering and highlighting the most important research developments and translating into practice for the practicing clinician - and we are proud to have again attracted some of the world's leading authorities as Editor-in-Chief,” said Peter Ashman, Publisher.

The new Nature Clinical Practice journals are published monthly in print and online. The journals and their editors in chief are:

Nature Clinical Practice Endocrinology & Metabolism:

P Reed Larsen - Chief of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School

Nature Clinical Practice Rheumatology:

Peter Lipsky - Director of the Intramural Research Program at the National Institute of Arthritis and Muscoskeletal and Skin Diseases

Nature Clinical Practice Nephrology:

Robert Schrier - Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine

Nature Clinical Practice Neurology:

John Griffin - Professor and Director of the Department of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Professor of Neuroscience and Pathology, and Neurologist-in-Chief at Johns Hopkins

Nature Clinical Practice also recently launched mobile service. The service is available for any web-enabled mobile phone, smartphone or Blackberry, as well as any Palm OS or Pocket PC-powered PDA. Clinicians can access the service from (URL), and view the content in a range of formats, from text-only to mobile PDF. More information is available at

“The Nature Clinical Practice mobile service offers clinicians the opportunity to keep up to date with news and developments in their practice area whenever convenient: during a commute, travel time, or a break in the work day,” continued Peter Ashman.

“With increasing numbers of clinicians using handheld devices like PDAs, smartphones, and the Blackberry, this is a logical extension beyond the fixed internet designed to help clinicians make the best use of limited time by putting up-to-date information in their pockets.”

The Nature Clinical Practice mobile service is powered by Roundpoint, a leading provider of mobile content delivery solutions to the publishing industry. Roundpoint's content delivery technology is used by, amongst others, The Economist, The Financial Times, The Guardian and Hearst Newspapers.

In another development, the first four Nature Clinical Practice journals (Cardiovascular Medicine, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Urology and Oncology) have all been accepted for indexing in the following places: CAB Abstracts, CINAHL, Current Contents Clinical Medicine, Current Contents EMBASE/Excerpta Medica, Index Medicus/MEDLINE and Science Citation Index.

Finally, the European School of Oncology (ESO) has entered into a strategic partnership to endorse the journal Nature Clinical Practice Oncology. As part of the partnership, all attendees of the ESO Annual Masterclass will receive a complimentary subscription to the journal. An editorial collaboration has also been agreed between Nature Clinical Practice Oncology and ESO's Cancer World magazine.

Launched in 2004, and with Vincent T DeVita as Editor-in-Chief, Nature Clinical Practice Oncology provides oncologists with authoritative and timely interpretations of key developments in the field, translating the latest findings into clinical practice. Content includes editorial and opinion pieces, highlights from the current literature, commentaries on the application of recent research to practical patient care, comprehensive reviews and in-depth case studies.
