Removal
- Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to Intake Manifold in this section.
- Remove the LH valve cover. For additional information, refer to Valve Cover—LH in this section.
- Remove the RH valve cover. For additional information, refer to Valve Cover—RH in this section.
- Remove the fuel supply manifold. For additional information, refer to Section 303-04 .
- Remove the engine front cover. For additional information, refer to Engine Front Cover in this section.
- Remove the thermostat housing. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03 .
- Remove all of the roller followers. For additional information, refer to Roller Followers in this section.
- NOTE: You must retime the LH and RH camshafts when either camshaft is disturbed.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise to position number one cylinder at TDC.
- Remove the LH camshaft chain tensioner.
- Loosen the LH camshaft sprocket bolt.
- Install the special tools to hold the camshaft sprocket.
- Loosen but do not remove the bolt.
- Remove the tool and bolt.
- Hold the crankshaft from turning and loosen the jackshaft sprocket bolt.
- Remove the primary chain tensioner.
- Remove the primary chain and jackshaft sprocket.
- Remove the camshaft drive cassette.
- Remove the chain guide bolts.
- Remove the sprockets.
- Lift the chain and guide up and out of the cylinder head.
- Clean all surfaces. Clean all foreign material from engine.
Installation
- Install the chain guide through the cylinder head.
- Install the chain.
- Install the new chain guide bolts.
- NOTE: The camshaft chain sprockets must be orientated correctly.
Install the chain lower sprocket and the camshaft sprocket.
- Install, but do not tighten the camshaft sprocket bolt.
- Install the primary chain and gear.
- Install the primary drive chain tensioner.
- Hold the crankshaft from turning and tighten the jackshaft sprocket bolt in two stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten bolt to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft).
- Stage 2: Tighten bolt an additional 90 degrees.
- Install the engine front cover. For additional information, refer to Engine Front Cover in this section.
- Time the engine. For additional information, refer to Timing Drive Components—Camshaft Timing in this section.
