I.Tony Nakazawa’s former WEDA assignments

a.ECOP Budget and Legislative Committee

Karen Hinton nominated to be considered by Exec Committee, to be confirmed by WEDA January 22.

b.Aquaculture

Without any current time sensitivity, the question of who from the West can consider replacing Tony (who replaced Chuck Gay) will be discussed with WEDA January 22.

c.Acknowledgement Plaque for Tony

Scott will work with Bob Wheeler's office(AK) to assess status of available computer files

2.WEDA ED Budget Shortfall

Financial statement and account summary attached

Linda will call Rick Standiford (CA) to assess their financial commitment

Doug will call the rest of States/Territories as the billing institution

Lyla’s feeling is that .2FTE is likely the absolute minimum service as WEDA ED, and that based upon discussions with other ED’s should be in the .3-.5FTE range.

Based upon signals sent from those in arrears, WEDA will need to consider options available to scale Lyla’s time.

3.Regional Administrative Officer’s Conference scheduled for Guam-- August 2007

Question-what is the Western Extension Directors’ level of support? There has been some concern expressed about support for the additional expenses to participate, especially In view of the national meeting being held in Seattle in April. The January 22 WEDA call will ask Directors to indicate participation from their State.

4.Federal Budget Communication

Activities among states representedon this call include involvement by federal relations staff and engagement of selected stakeholders. Individual states’ impacts vary based upon special grants (earmarks). Communications typically emphasizethe volume of resources and positions affected by the extended continuing resolution. An additional risk in FY07 is scheduled expiration of the Secure Rural schools and Community Self Determination Act.
