Presenters:
- Rebecca Threatt, DNP, RN, CHSE – “Transforming Healthcare Education – The Art of Facilitation” and “Incorporating Caring Competencies”
Dr. Threatthas taught in healthcare education using simulation for more than 11 years. Dr. Threatt received her BSN from Dallas Baptist University, MSN from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, NC and her DNP from Gardner-Webb University. Currently, she serves as an Assistant Professor in the Physician Assistant Studies program at Gardner-Webb University. She is a CHSE Certified Simulation Educator and serves on the executive board of the NCNA Sim Council and the SSiH CHSE Readiness Course Committee. She has presented at national regional simulation and nursing conferences. Dr. Threatt works to build interprofessional opportunities for students and has worked internationally in several African countries. She strives to be a transformational servant leader who cares without compromise and reaches beyond international and interprofessional boundaries to help others achieve success.
- Sheri Howard, PhD, RN, CHSE – “Dynamic Debriefing: How to Finish Well”
Dr. Howardhas over 18 years simulation experience in both the clinical setting as well as academia. Dr. Howard received her PhD in Nursing Education and Administration at William Carey University and is currently holding the rank of Nursing Professor and Director of Simulation at the University of Memphis in Memphis Tennessee.Dr. Howard is also an Educational Simulation Specialist for Laerdal Medical Inc. and teaches simulation classes throughout the United States and Canada. Dr. Howard's current simulation research interest is the utilization of defined observer roles in simulation and debriefing.
- Tonya Schneidereith, PhD, CRNP, PPCNP-BC, CPNP-AC, CNE, CHSE – “Out of the Seat and Into the Sim: Simulations in the Classroom”
Dr, Schneidereith is Associate Professor and member of the simulation team at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and CEO of SIMPL Simulation, LLC. Her research interests use simulation to identify safe medication administration behaviors in undergraduate nursing students, notably integrating Google glass technology. She is recognized internationally as a simulation leader through her publications, presentations, and work for INACSL and the NLN. Dr. Schneidereith is serving as Chair of the INACSL Research Committee and as a member of the Standards of Best Practice: Simulation SM committee. She has authored scenarios for NLN’s Advancing Care Excellence series in Pediatrics; is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for the Center for Innovation in Simulation and Technology, and serves as a consultant to NLN for Coaching for Excellence in Nursing Course. Dr. Schneidereith also serves as a manuscript reviewer for Clinical Simulation in Nursing and Nurse EducationPerspectives.
- Nichole Jackson, DNP, MSN, RN, CNE – “Setting the Stage for Effective Simulation”
Dr. Jackson is an assistant professor of nursing and simulation director at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK. She has been involved in simulation within nursing education since the completion of her master’s degree in 2011. Dr. Jackson is enthusiastic about advancing simulation science and has actively sought further learning opportunities to help her grow in her understanding and implementation of simulation best practices over the past several years. She participated in the CAE-INACSL fellowship in the 2015-2016 cohort and is currently a participant in the NLN Simulation Leadership Program for the 2018 cohort. Dr. Jackson has a strong desire to help faculty integrate simulation into their curriculum and to ensure that simulation participants have a safe container to practice in within the simulation setting and beyond. In taking her experiences and training into account, Dr. Jackson is excited to give back to others and help educators get started in their program’s simulation journey.
- Josie Scott, MSN, RN & Sue Kerr, MSN, RN – “Utilizing Deliberate Practice”
Josie Scott has been teaching in healthcare education the past 15 years and specializing in simulation the last 6 years. She is currently the Simulation Lab Coordinator at Metro Technology Centers in Oklahoma City. She received her BSN from University of Missouri and her MSN from University of Central Missouri. She states, “I’ve found my passion in nursing simulation and bringing patient scenarios to life for my students”. She is always willing to share the knowledge she has gained over the years by presenting at simulation and educational conferences or just talking with other educators. Josie served on the Oklahoma Board of Nursing Subcommittee that developed the Oklahoma Clinical Simulation Guidelines.
Sue Kerrhas been a nurse for 15 years and has taught in nursing education for nine years. Sue received her BA and BSN from The University of Central Oklahoma and MSN from Walden University. She served in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) in Butner, NC for four years as a Commissioned Nurse Officer at The Federal Bureau of Prisons. She also worked on the neurology/orthopedic unit at OU Medical Center. She is currently a Practical Nurse Instructor at Francis Tuttle Technology Center serving as the Project Coordinator on the Simulation Committee. Sue presented, EHR Concepts, at OKACTE Summer Conference in 2015. Sue continues to seek opportunities to learn ways to integrate simulation into the nursing curriculum and advance her professional experiences through networking, research, and conferences.
“Basic 101: Ready, Set, Sim BOOTCAMP”

- Gain an understanding of the setup, operation, and the maintenance of Laerdal manikins.
- Understand the concepts related to the simulation process (participant preparation through debrief).
- Identify, explore and implement free pre-developed simulations you can use to jump start simulation in your program.
- Identify free simulation resources to assist you in implementing simulation in your program.
Who should attend:
- Any healthcare instructor who is responsible for facilitating simulation-learning activities utilizing manikins andsimulation equipment.
- Any healthcare instructor who may be reluctant to embrace the simulation technology and just needs a “jump start”!
- Any healthcare instructor who would like to network with other simulation beginnersand/or those needing a refresher in identifying, exploring and implementing simulation in their program!
