UNMIK invites qualified internal/external applicants and staff members in the relevant occupational group to apply for the position highlighted below. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities: Within delegated authority, the Finance Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Scrutinizes source documents for completeness, accuracy and validity of charges.
  • Process monthly payroll using Progen and Sun Systems.
  • Prepares monthly Pension Fund reports to NY.
  • Reconciles national staff pension contributions and prepare and submit year-end reports to UN Joint Staff Pension Fund.
  • Reviews ARL/APL balance before payroll run and make adjusting entries as necessary.
  • Computes night differential, overtime, United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) contribution, Medical Insurance Plan claims (MIP), “0.5% Reserved Fund for Injuries” for inclusion in the payroll.
  • Analyzes accounts receivable and payable and prepare statements of final payments of personnel who have left the mission.
  • Updates “active/inactive” status and location fields of personnel’s accounts in order to facilitate correct payments of emoluments to various categories of personnel.
  • Creates and updates local and foreign payment instructions.
  • Records monthly telephone and liberty mileage charges.
  • Verifies the accuracy of staff payroll lists that are submitted to local banks.
  • Drafts correspondences relating to area of responsibility as required.
  • Scan and archive financial documents and file the original copies.
  • Performs other related duties as may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of secondary/high school education with confirmed diploma. Relevant University degree is an asset. Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office is required. Knowledge of Sun Systems and Progen Payroll System is an advantage.

At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, finance or related area.

LANGUAGES:

Fluency in spoken and written English; knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.
