2.Overview of Activities in 2014

  • Submitted “Triennial” Strategic Plan (10/1/08-9/30/13)
  • Rated “Excellent” by the Technical Coordination Council
  • 2014 Geo-Congress: Geo-Characterization and Modeling for Sustainability, Atlanta GA, February 23-26 ( Organized two sessions:
  • Session 33: Numerical Modeling and Testing for Sustainable Pavements (Mahmoud, Schwartz)
  • Session 34: Numerical Modeling of Soil-Structure Interaction with Geosynthetics (Abu-Farsakh, Bilgin)
  • 12th ISAP Conference on Asphalt Pavements, Raleigh NC, June 1-5 (
  • Third Monismith Lecture: “M-E Flexible Pavement Design: Issues & Challenges” by Marshall Thompson (videotaped w/ support from Geo-Institute Special Project Funds; to be posted on Geo-Institute Youtube channel)
  • Successfully nominated Matthew W. Witczak for the Fourth Monismith Lecture Award.
  • 2015 International Foundations Congress & Equipment Exposition, San Antonio TX, March 17-21 (IFCEE 2015;
  • Proposed two sessions:
  • Challenges with Highly Problematic Subgrade Soils: Characterization, Remedial Measures, and Case Histories (Sobhan, Das, and Dessouky)
  • Design and Performance of Pavement Base Layers Using In-Place Recycling (Howard).
  • Subsequently combined into one session: “Recycled Materials for Sustainable Pavements” (additional papers may be scattered among other sessions)

  • Need to actively nominatecommittee members for G-I awards (Papagiannakis, Chehab and Ceylan)

•Eligible papers are generally GSP publications, JGGE papers, and IJOG papers; also other ASCE conferences with a Geotech theme.

•Mid-year (summer) teleconference meeting to select/nominate award caliber papers?
