School-Parent Compact
Schley County Middle/High School
School Year 2015 – 2016
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Schley County Middle/High School, students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement as well as describes how the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the state’s high standards.
To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand our district’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement.
Schley County School SystemGoals:
- Students will reach and maintain 95% in the meets and exceeds category while increasing by 5% the number in the exceeds category.
- Students will increase the graduation percentage rate by 5%
- Students will increase the CCRPI score to 85 at the system level.
- Students will increase the attendance rate by 2%.
Schley County Middle/High SchoolGoals:
GOAL 1 To improve student achievement in the areas of ELA, mathematics, science, and social studies for grades 6-8 as determined from the Georgia Milestones. In high school the following areas will determine performance in student achievement based on Georgia Milestones assessment results: 9th grade Literature, American Literature, Coordinate Algebra, Analytic Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, US History, and Economics. Students will increase total meets and exceeds on the Georgia Milestones in grades 6-12 by 3%.
Other Goals:
- Increase the 4 year cohort graduation rate by 5% a year for the next 3 years.
- Increase overall middle school CCRPI score 2 points a year for the next 2 years.
- Increase overall high school CCRPI score 5 points a year for the next 2 years.
- Increase overall attendance rate in both middle school and high school by 2% for the 2015-2016 school year.
- All students, grades 6-12, will create and maintain their GaCollege 411 accounts.
To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to:
School Responsibilities:
Schley County Middle/High Schoolwill:
1. Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the state’s student academic achievement standards by:
- Providing teachers professional learning to provide the most up to date instructional techniques.
- Integrating technology during instruction to provide for differentiated learning among students.
- Providing training in differentiated instruction for teachers to help maximize learning for all students.
2. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.
- Face to face parent-teacher conferences for each student will take place once a year.
- Parent-advisor meetings will take place once each semester.
- Parent-counselor meetings will be scheduled once a semester for each Junior and Senior to monitor and confirm graduation progress.
- Provide information daily through the school website to parents of participating students in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon the request of parents with disabilities, and, to the extent practicable, in a language that parents can understand.
- At the request of parents, provide opportunities for regular meetings for parents to formulate suggestions, and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions about the education of their children.The school will respond to any such suggestions as soon as practicably possible.
3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.
- On a daily basis, create and maintain consistent line of communication between parent and teacher via e-mail.
- Provide continual parental access to student grades and educational information through the online PowerSchool parental access point.
- Provide progress reports each 4 ½ weeks and report cards each 9 weeks.
4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff.
- Teachers will be available daily during their planning period, before and after school for face to face parent-teacher conferences and telephone conferences.
- Teachers will distribute their e-mail address to parents at the beginning of the year and it will also be available on the school website.
- The teacher’s classroom or media center conference room will be available for all conferences.
5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and to observe classroom activities as follows:
- Parents will be provided and encouraged to participate in opportunities to volunteer to work in the media center, book fairs and extra-curricular activities.
- Parents will be provided opportunities to provide educationally relevant experiences such as job fairs and career days.
- Parents will be provided opportunities to participate in the following: 6th & 7th grade orientation, 8th to 9th grade orientation, Apply to College Day, Dual Enrollment Night, and College Financial Aid Night.
Parent Responsibilities:
I/We, as (a) parent(s), will:
- Help my child get at least 8 hours of sleep and a balanced, nutritional diet so he/she can come to school ready to learn
- Help my child attend school at a minimum of 95% attendance rate and be on campus each day by 7:45 am.
- Provide at least 1 hour of quiet study time at home and encourage good study habits.
- Communicate and work with teachers and staff at least 1 time a week to support my child’s learning.
- Learn about my child’s progress through conferences with teachers, reviewing school work and assignments daily, and checking student status on PowerSchool daily.
- Support the school in its efforts to maintain proper discipline.
- Model respectful treatment of others.
- Positively encourage and praise my children for their efforts academically, socially, and emotionally.
- Attend school sponsored activities that promote learning.
- Participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education.
- Stay informed about my child’s education by promptly reading all notices from the school or district.
- Encourage my child to use technology with parental supervision to enhance understanding and opportunities.
- Monitor my child’s internet use for academic purposes on a weekly basis.
Student Responsibilities:
As the student I will:
- Commit 1 hour each day to completion of assignments or studying.
- Share daily what I have learned with my parents.
- Ask teachers questions when I do not understand something.
- Respect and cooperate with other students and adults.
- Follow all school rules on a daily basis.
- Attend school regularly.
- Read for 10 minutes each school night.
- Give parents/guardians all notices/information received from the school.
- Use school technology responsibly and abide by regulations as set forth to enhance my learning and educational opportunities
- Access the internet as an academic resource for a minimum of 1 hour per week.
- Be on time to attend school regularly and be prepared for classes
- Turn in assignments on time
Please review this School-Parent Compact with your child. This School-Parent Compact will be discussed with you throughout the year at different school-family events as we work together to help your child succeed in school.
