Safety Presentation & Discussion by Mark Griffin:
Presentation on OAC rules and procedures
The Orlando Aero Club has certain restrictions and operational procedures often more conservative than the FAA. Some examples are fuel reserve, certain limitations for student and private pilots for weather minimums, and the requirement to file a flight plans for flights over 50 nms
- Weather minimums are different than FAA
- Student pilots – 1500’ ceiling and > 5 miles vis.
- Private pilots – 1500’ clg; night 2000’ clg and > 7 miles vis.
- Fuel reserve:
- Daytime – FAA = 30 min
- Night – FAA = 45 min
- OAC = 1hr-15min for all flights
- No formation flights
- Flight plans are required for flights over 50 nm
- Consideration should be looked at to change the weather minimums for VFR operations of student and private pilots in and out of Orlando since it may be difficult to maintain VFR cloud separation at typical pattern altitudes
