ANNOUNCING THE 40 YEAR

REUNION OF THE CLASS OF 1971

Dear Alumni,

Two thousand eleven (2011) marks our 40th reunion anniversary!! Hard to believe it has been 40 years, but we’re hoping you’re as excited as we are to celebrate this occasion. Plans are in the making and we hope you will be there.

The reunion committee has chosen the Tides Inn, 480 King Carter Drive, Irvington, VA 22480, telephone 804.438.5000 or 1 800 843 3746 - www.tidesinn.com as the venue for our 40th reunion. The Tides Inn offers a lot of great activities (brochures included).

We would like you to know about the plans early so you can set aside this date: Friday night, October 28th for “Meet and Greet”, and Saturday, October 29th, buffet dinner (menu included), program and dancing. The ticket cost for each alumni and one guest is $70.00 per person. However, if you pay for your ticket by March 31, 2011, the cost is $50 each for alumni and one guest. In addition, for all alumni current on their 2010 alumni dues and pay for their ticket by March 31, 2011, the cost is $25.00. The discounted rate applies to the alumni only. The cost of your guest ticket is $50 if paid for by March 31, 2011. Please feel free to bring additional guest, but the costs to them will be $82.00 per person. Please Note: To take advantage of the discounted rates, full payment must be received by March 31, 2011.

We have reserved 10 rooms for a two night stay (October 28th – October 30th) as follows:

Deluxe Guest Room $150.00

Premium Guest Room $235.00

Vista Suite $300.00

Room rates quoted above are net, based on single/double occupancy and are subject to tax, which is currently 7%, consisting of 5% Virginia state tax and 2% local occupancy tax. The group rates will be honored 1 day before our group is scheduled to arrive on the 28th and 1 day after our group is scheduled to depart on the 30th based on room and rate availability.

In order to assign individuals to rooms, room reservations will be required. Please phone in your reservation to 800-438-5000. It is important you contact the resort at least thirty days prior to your arrival date and identify yourself as part of The Northumberland High School Class of 1971 reunion group. Any requests for special room arrangements must be made at the time of your reservation.

In addition to the room rates, there will be a daily resort fee of $24.00 per room, based on single or double occupancy, per day, plus applicable taxes, and a one-time porterage fee of $7.50 per person. These fees are separate and distinct from the room rate and from taxes. These charges will be posted as separate items to your account. However, for the 1st 10 alumni that reserve and pay for a two night stay, they will not have to pay the $48 resort fee.

When reservations are made, Tides Inn requires a deposit equal to the room rate and tax for the first night for each reservation. Your deposit is refundable if the Resort receives notice of cancellation at least 7 days prior to your scheduled arrival. You will be required to present a valid credit card, on which an amount of sufficient pre-authorization can be obtained to cover the room, tax charges plus resort and porterage fees and any incidental charges for the length of your stay at check-in. Cash will be accepted as well to cover the above charges at check-in.

With your help, we would like to put together a souvenir booklet, to include information about you. Please provide us with pictures of you and your family and several items about what you have been doing the past 40 years: i.e. Who did you marry, how many children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, occupation, etc. To defray the cost of the souvenir booklet we will be selling Ads for the booklet (details included).

We are also looking for “hard-to-find” classmates and we could use your help in finding them. Please check our website www.northumberland71.org to find classmates that have not completed a profile. If you have any contact information such as e-mail, address, phone number, would you send any information to one of the addresses that follow, it would be most helpful.

If you can join us, please send your ticket payment to Lena Downing-Handy at 10902 White House Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774. Please remember, payment in full is due by March 31, 2011 to take advance of the discounted rates. Otherwise, full payment of $70.00 for alumni and 1 guest and $82.00 for additional guests is due by August 31, 2011. Advance reservations only – there will be no tickets sold at the door.

You can register and pay for the reunion event online at www.northumberland71.org. If you elect to pay online, there will be an additional cost of $3 per person processing fee or you can register online and mail a check or money order made payable to NHS Class of 1971 at no additional cost. You can also complete the enclosed registration form and return it with a check or money order to Lena Downing Handy, 10902 White House Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774. You may also elect to make payments. If you elect the payment plan, a deposit of $25 is due no later than March 31, 2011 with final payment due on or before August 31, 2011. Remember, full payment will need to be received by March 31, 2011 to take advantage of the discounted rate as it applies to you.

The 40th Reunion Committee is working hard to raise funds to defray the cost of the reunion. We have a couple of fund raiser underway; Sheet Sale and Souvenir Booklet Ad Campaigns (flyers attached). Here is an opportunity for you to participate in your reunion.
