Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. (Physical Skills)
Fourth Grade physical education standard 1 skills include: Demonstrates 3 or 4 step bowling approach with arm/leg opposition or release. Throw a Frisbee by crossing midline with truck rotation. Demonstrate proper technique for stick handling (puck control, passing and receiving) with partners and in drills. Execute a forward pass to a stationary target (criteria: minimum of 10 yards). Catch a football from a throw moving to a minimum of 10 feet. Demonstrate how to combine skills (catching a basketball, dribbling, and passing to and open player) with partners and in drills. Demonstrate short ropes skills (twirl, double jump & wraps). Demonstrate long ropes skills (twirl, jump, enter & exit). Use basic movements to create and perform a sequence with a beginning middle and end.
Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. (Knowledge)
Fourth Grade physical education standard 2 skills include: Demonstrates appropriate use of skills and strategies in lead up games. Understands all five health related fitness assessments and the associated exercises that develop strength, endurance and flexibility in a variety of muscle groups (arms, legs, abdominals, shoulders).
Standard 3: Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of fitness (Personal Fitness).
Fourth Grade physical education standard 4 skills include: Assess individual fitness level (Presidential Physical Fitness Testing) and identify personal improvement goals.
Standard 4: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior in physical activity settings. (Behavioral Skills)
Fourth Grade physical education standard 5 skills include: Demonstrate rules and scoring for units presented. Behave in a manner that does not distract others. Manage conflict appropriately. Work well cooperatively. Continue to try despite frustrations.
Standard 5: Participates regularly in physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self expression, and/ or social interaction. (Physical Activity- Recreation/Leisure)
Fourth Grade physical education standard 3 skills include: Uses a pedometer to measure and improve activity level. Participates in moderate to vigorous physical activities for 20 + minutes during and outside of the school day and understands the accumulative effect of physical activity. Demonstrate skills in recreation/leisure(e.g., Frisbee, In-line skating, X-country skiing, juggling and or problem solving activities). Student develops skills for use during recreational time.
