NEW INITIATIVES HAPPENING AT CHURCH

Open Door Free Drop-in Café These Drop-in Cafés have been running since May, once a month on Wednesday afternoons, and are organised by a group of our members who feel that there is a need in Street for a place where people who are not well-off can go for a free drink, and where lonely people will be welcomed. The sessions have turned out to be ideal for elderly people on their own, newcomers to the town, tourists passing through, and young parents walking children home from school. The atmosphere is informal and friendly.

New Street Food Bank The Quakers, Methodists, United Reformed and Anglican churches of Street have come together to organise a Food Bank for the town, which will be in business from some point in September or October, if all goes to plan. It will be based in this church, with storage upstairs, and distribution is planned to take place at the Drop-In Café afternoons, once a month or fortnightly. We are hoping to be supported by other organisations and businesses in Street, and members of the public. Look out for announcements in the Central Somerset Gazette in the next few weeks.

September is WaterAid month at Street URC

In addition to our fund-raising for Action Aid, SOS Botswana, and the Taunton Association for the Homeless at Harvest Festival, the church is going to run a special WaterAid appeal throughout September, as we did at about the same time last year.

It will be launched with a WaterAid-themed Family Service on September 1st, conducted by the Rev Tim Richards, and will end with another dedicated WaterAid Family Service on September 29th, which will include a speaker from the charity.

Fund-raising can be fun!...... as we found last year. Do look out for further publicity in the next few weeks.
