Tillymints Day Nurseries is a privately owned business that delivers a high standard of care for children aged from birth to 11 years old. We currently have 5 nurseries and 1 Out of School Club, all based in Hull.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Ensure the effective management of the setting in accordance with Company Policy, the Childcare Act 2006, Health & Safety regulations, as well as the Local Authority and Ofsted regulations.
  • Ensure the safety, security and well-being of all children registered within the setting.
  • Monitor and ensure all agreed Company quality and safety standards are maintained at all times.
  • Formulate, operate and evaluate an annual programme of activities suitable for the age range of the children, following the guidelines for the implementation of early years care and education.
  • Develop a strategy for continued links and quality improvement, ensuring appropriate links with local agencies, parents and other Tillymints sites.
  • To ensure ongoing development of the Workforce Development Programme, ensuring equal opportunities for all staff.
  • Monitor and manage the day to day financial operations within the setting and meet occupancy and financial objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operational

  • To be responsible for the development and management of all care and education providing a safe, caring and stimulating environment for children, including those with special needs.
  • To review and monitor occupancy levels to ensure they are maintained to maximum capacity. Proactively market the setting to meet these objectives.
  • To be responsible for the Early Years Pupil Premium including identifying eligible children, ensuring that the premium is used to enable the setting to tailor support for identified children in a range of ways appropriate to their individual needs and to fully evaluate the impact of the premium.
  • To establish and promote a working environment in which the emotional, social, psychological, physical, developmental and educational well-being of children is paramount and in which a supportive, empathetic and non-judgemental approach is used in all interactions with children and their families.
  • To promote inclusive attitudes and practices to accommodate and support the diversity of the local community.
  • To promote, encourage and support the active involvement of parents/carers, including childminders, as partners in all the activities of the various settings.
  • To promote and support the development of an innovative approach to children’s learning and play that includes a respectful image of children as competent and capable, and a close relationship between the organisation and the community.
  • To establish, develop and maintain a professional working relationship with all multi agencies including the Local Authority and Ofsted. To lead the team through internal and external inspections.
  • To ensure that required standards, ratios and conditions of registration are maintained at all times. Make adjustments to staffing as and when the need changes.
  • To maintain accurate and up to date records for all children including attendance registers, fee registers and medical records, emergency contact records etc. Ensure head office have accurate and up to date records at all times.
  • To action and monitor all children protection & Safeguarding issues; parent’s issues; complaints and accidents to ensure that remedial action is taken immediately. To attend core group meetings as required.
  • To arrange and attend regular parents meetings and open events.
  • To prepare the setting for Local Authority and Ofsted inspections and visits, and action any recommendations made by the inspector within the timescales agreed.
  • Ensure care, maintenance and security of equipment and toys within the setting by deploying organisation and order amongst the children and staff.
  • Ensure the company vision statement is implemented within your setting and that all staff are aware of how they fit into the vision.
  • Carryout a daily walk around your setting, setting standards, challenging areas of concern and supporting and deploying staff according to the needs of the setting.
  • Praise and encourage your staff team to promote a self-motivated team.

2. Personnel

  • Ensure that appropriate levels of qualified / unqualified staff are maintained within the setting.
  • Ensure that all staff within your designated area are trained, motivated, appraised and developed in a positive manner, taking into account Company Policy and statutory requirements to ensure they fulfil the provisions of their job descriptions.
  • Ensure that all recruitment processes within your setting are at all times compliant with Company Policy, the employment legislative framework and Ofsted regulations. Carryout all appropriate checks for new employees.
  • Maintain accurate personnel records for all nursery employees within your setting.
  • Organise regular staff meetings and appropriate training sessions to keep staff up to date on company policy and Ofsted regulations.
  • Deal with any grievance, disciplinary matters in your setting in accordance with company policy.
  • Monitor staffing levels, ensuring your setting is always appropriately staffed and that staff are always appropriately deployed. Liaise with the Operations Manager for all temporary staff requirements. Manage annual leave requests to ensure your setting is adequately staffed at all times.
  • Ensure all staff rosters are accurate, including reporting the absence through sickness and holidays. Undertake regular review meetings with staff.

3. Provision and Promotion of High Quality Play and Learning opportunities

  • Be responsible for the provision of stimulating and secure care and learning environments for children, which enable children to develop to their full potential and encourage positive parent/carer-child relationships.
  • To ensure that staff teams work closely with and complement the role of the teachers and deputy managers.
  • To promote environments where children are encouraged to explore and investigate, directing their own activities and play as much as is practicable, while ensuring that the critical elements of the children’s curriculum are fulfilled.
  • To promote a creative and innovative range of play and learning experiences, making full use of indoor and outdoor opportunities and facilities and utilising external facilitators where appropriate.
  • To ensure that the emotional needs of children are treated on an equal level as physical, educational and other needs.
  • To ensure that the approach to all areas of work with children, staff and parents/carers in the setting is empathetic, positive and non-judgmental.
  • To support the Deputies and their teams to assess the needs of all children and develop care and development programmes to meet those needs.
  • To provide appropriate services and support for children with special needs and their families.
  • To keep up to date with relevant legislation, policy and practice.
  • To establish an inclusive environment that welcomes and accommodates the diversity of cultures within the local community.
  • To ensure that all Ofsted registration and inspection requirements are met and essential policies such as Health and Safety, First Aid, Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding Children, Data Protection, Confidentiality etc are implemented consistently throughout Tillymints with respect to the delivery of the early years education and childcare and play services.
  • To be committed to providing quality childcare services and undertake to complete relevant accreditation schemes to demonstrate this.
  • Arrange for parents/carers to be given regular information about the curriculum, the progress of their children and other matters affecting the settings to promote a shared understanding of its aims.

4. Financial

  • Monitor the budget and expenditure in your area to ensure that agreed budgets are not exceeded.
  • Be fully conversant with the childcare business with regards to maximising gross margins per room and age group.
  • Monitor all staff costs in your area closely to ensure they do not exceed budgetary provisions.
  • Maintain accurate accounts, including fee registers and collection. Manage aged debt.

1.Level 4:Early years and childcare qualification or relevant equivalent

Experience & Abilities

  1. Experience of working with children in the 0-11-age range and their families.
  1. A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience, and ability to work on their own initiative and prioritise work loads
  1. Have full understanding of current early years curriculum

5.Experience of working as part of a team and have an understanding of nursery management

  1. Knowledge of the emotional, physical, psychological and educational development of children, in order to provide an environment in which the child’s full potential can be developed, and in which parents/carers can be supported in their relationship with their children.
  1. Knowledge of the particular requirements of children with special needs in terms of their support, development and care planning.
  1. Experience of working with parents and carers from a range of cultural backgrounds, encouraging full participation in their children’s play and learning opportunities
  1. Knowledge of all legislation relating to childcare
  1. Knowledge of the Code of Practice for Special Educational needs
  1. Knowledge of child protection issues and policies and relevant Safeguarding Children Board procedures
