Activity Co-ordinator
Responsible to:Education Service Manager (ESM) and Deputy Education Service Manager(DESM)
Payscale: 20- 24
Description of Role
To assist the ESM & DESM in running activity sessions based across the college and in the community. To take responsibility for operational management of the timetable on a rota’d basis.
Specific Responsibilities
1.1 To contribute to the planning, development and implementation of activity programmes developed through the person centred planning process.
1.2 To be responsible for an allocated area of the service to manage and develop. This will entail responsibility for creating and monitoring appropriate sessions in that area as well as relevant equipment and resources.
1.3 To contribute to the assessment of, and recording evidence of these activity programmes.
1.4 To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes other day team members, service users and carers in order to ensure the delivery of a fully integrated service.
1.5 To be able to prepare reports, both orally and in writing, to the rest of the team, to other professionals / external agencies and families.
1.6 To attend meetings as required.
1.7 To contribute generally to the continuing development of the entire service.
1.8 To actively promote the awareness of Equal Opportunities policies in all aspects of her/his employment.
1.9 To ensure that all service users' personal property and Sense's resources are respected and appropriately used.
1.10 To contribute to the maintenance of the areas used in sessions
1.11To ensure and maintain a safe and functional environment for both Service Users and Staff.
1.12 To supervise Learning Support Asssistants in supporting people to participate in their chosen activity and to undertake regular supervision with selected Learning Support Assistants
1.13 To act as a link person to the day service users, their carers and Sense.
1.14 To provide personal care to those who require that support.
1.15 To assist Service Users to participate in their activity programmes
1.16 To promote communication and opportunities for choice in all areas.
1.17 To actively promote an approach of Total Communication.
1.18To carry out any other duties as reasonably requested by your line Manager or Senior Manager, relevant to the objectives of the post.

Education and TrainingEssential Criteria / Desirable Criteria
A relevant professional qualification, preferably in teaching
First Aid Certificate
Food Hygiene Certificate
Achievements and Experience
Essential Criteria / Desirable Criteria
Experience of working with adults with sensory impairments and/or learning disabilities / Knowledge and experience of working with people with sensory impairments and learning disabilities
Experience of implementing activity programmes with a strong emphasis on learning outcomes, in a variety of environments (pool, gym, kitchen, art room and community based activities) / Knowledge and experience of visual impairments, physical disabilities and learning difficulties
Experience in managing Challenging Behaviour. / Staff management and training experience
Experience in working as part of a mutually supportive team.
Experience of liaison with community groups and other service providers.
Skills & Abilities
A firm belief in the principles of community care and living / Artistic and creative background
Ability to produce clear written documents / Ability to use any signed or symbolic language
A progressive outlook and commitment to issues including disability and equal opportunities and the empowerment of service users / Full UK Driving Licence
Understanding of the importance of Total Communication
