What is CHOICES?

Connecticut’s State Health Insurance Program (SHIP). CHOICES is part of a national network of programs that offer freeconfidential counseling, education and assistance to people with Medicare. SHIPS were established by Congress in 1990 to help beneficiaries navigate the complex world of Medicare.

Who should take the CHOICES Training?

Individuals who would like to make a positive difference in the lives of people with Medicare. Interested individuals should have computer and internet skills and good listening skills.

Insurance agents, brokers and financial planners are not eligible.

What you will learn:

  • Medicare Parts.A, B, C & D
  • Medigap (supplemental insurance)
  • Medicaid (Title 19)
  • Medicare Savings Programs
  • Medicare Advantage Plans
  • Medicare/Medicaid Fraud abuse detection and prevention

How much does the CHOICES Training Cost?

The training is free for unpaid volunteers. A $75 fee is required forpaid professionals (a fee of $125 is normally required). Once you become a CHOICES Certified Counselor, you will receive the most accurate, current information including updates by email and quarterly updates to keep you up to date on important issues.
