Nature and Purpose of Agency

Project Hospitality is a non-profit agency that operates at many locations around Staten Island. Its mission is to reach out to community members who are hungry, homeless or otherwise in need in order to work with themto achieve their self-sufficiency — thereby enhancing the quality of life for the community.Project Hospitality always advocates for those in need, and seeks to establish a comprehensive continuum of care that begins with the provision of food, clothing and shelter, then extends to other services includingphysical health care, mental health care, alcohol and substance abuse treatment, HIV care, education, vocational training, legal assistance, and both transitional and permanent housing.

Volunteers are the backbone of the agency’s ability to do so much for so many. Here is an overview of volunteer placement opportunities at Project Hospitality:

Tasks Available for Students

As outlined in the table on page 1, students can help pre-school through 3rd grade children with homework and literacy improvement (sometimes to the benefit of their parents, too) through Los Promotores, and/or help older children (4th grade and older) with their homework through EyeOpeners.
