SCHOOL & COMMUNITY:

St. Helens is located in ColumbiaCounty. The southern county line is approximately 30 minutes from Portland, the largest metropolitan area in Oregon. The western county line is approximately 30 minutes from the PacificCoast. Present population is 13,000 and growing. A community founded on agriculture, St. Helens has also started to attract new business and new people. Major employers today include forest products, mining, and manufacturing operations, however many residents commute to Portland and the surrounding communities for more diverse employment opportunities.

St. HelensHigh School is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools and the State of Oregon Department of Education. The counseling staff, teachers and administrators strive to provide both career readiness education and rigorous academic opportunities preparing students well for four year college success. Opportunities include; AP coursework, Honors coursework, and multiple opportunities for dual high school and college credit from Portland Community College, Portland State University, and Western Oregon University.

St. Helens High School is a four year comprehensive public high school serving 920 students. There are 230 students in the 2018senior class.

CURRICULUM ORGANIZATION:

St. Helens High School utilizes a seven period/block day hybrid schedule. Class periods are 50 or 82 minutes in length. The school year is divided into two 18 week semesters.

ACTIVITIES & ATHLETICS:

St. Helens High School is a member of the Northwest Oregon Conference. Members of the conference include; Sandy, Rex Putnam, Milwaukie, Parkrose, La Salle, Hillsboro, and Wilsonville HS.

2018GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

One-half credit is awarded for successful completion of one class for one semester. Requirements included in the 24 credits are as follows:

All courses other than Pass/No pass and Audit, taken in grades nine through first semester of grade 12, are used in computing accumulative GPA and establishing class rank. Honors and AP classes are not given additional point value; grade point average and class rank are unweighted.
