United Academy (UA) has completed ten years and within this period UA has experienced disciplined hard-work to maintain a consistent good record of excellent results. We thank parents and guardians of our students who have shared our views, ways and concerns about improvement and progress of our work. We gratefully acknowledge their support, trust and confidence in UA.
Our primary priority has been to honour and respect our concern for progress of our students and commitment to their parents and our society. It has not been an easy job, but we do not feel defeated or deflated because we work together with a strong team of many dedicated persons from chief executive body, academic executive body, teaching faculty, counselling body, administration to good helping hands. We have encountered challenges - yes, but, disappointments - never! Our sincere efforts and effective teamwork have never been counter- productive.
UA might see many more fruitful ten years. UA sustains in dedicated team work and its mutual trust with students and their parents. We have built a fellowship with past and present students and their parents. UA means to promote and strengthen it. We welcome all our future students and parents to join this sustaining fellowship. About United Academy
Situated at Kumaripati, Lalitpur, United Academy (UA), affiliated to Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB), Nepal is a +2 college for Science, Commerce and Humanities. Over a period of ten years, it has built up an outstanding position of its own as a most sought-after college in Kathmandu valley. This adequately proves UA’s academic success. During this period UA has extended into a junior wing United School upto SLC level and a senior wing United College of three years BBS and MBS and BA (from Academic session, 2064), affiliated to Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
The college follows scientific teaching technique, allowing students to approach their subjects with a keen insight. As a result, they come up with a clear concept of the subjects and develop their own vision about them. Consequently, it helps the students pursue their higher studies with confidence.

admission requirements
Students who have passed School Leaving Certificate (SLC) or equivalent examinations (ICSE, CBSE), are eligible to apply for admission at UA.
Application forms to be submitted with : recent photo, photocopy of SLC mark-sheet and character certificate. Eligibility only distinction, first and second division holders should apply [Science above 65%, Commerce and Humanities above 45%].
It is essential for all students to pass the Entrance Test on :
-Compulsory English, Compulsory Mathematics and General Science for Science Faculty).
-Compulsory English and Compulsory Mathematics for faculty of Commerce and Humanities.
Admission will be granted on the basis of Merit List of the Entrance Test.
The UA administration has the right to reject application forms with incomplete information and papers.
It also has the absolute right to decide the final admission only after an oral interview with subject experts.
Teaching Learning Approach
Use of OHP
Highly experienced teachers of UA make students grasp many complex lessons through the use of latest techniques and tools of teaching. They constantly take the help of the overhead projectors to simplify their job and that of students.
Multi-media presentation
UA intends to use a new teaching technique, in order to make lessons easily comprehensible. Through the use of computer which transfers text materials concerning lessons and pictures in screen.
Tutorial classes
Students are also given as many revision classes as they need. These revision classes are free of cost and are provided to meet their needs.
Use of audio-visuals
Modern teaching system at UA includes a comprehensive audio-visual programme to enhance the teaching skills and learning environment.
Orientation on course of study and model questions
UA gives orientation lectures for a couple of days before the regular classes start. UA provides booklets containing course of study for both classes XI and XII at the beginning of the academic session. Towards the end of the academic session, students are provided with a set of model questions including the past Board Examinations and send-up questions of other well known colleges for each subject to familiarize students with the Board pattern and possible questions pattern.
Revision classes/discussion classes will be conducted after the Send-up exams
Student as a tutor programme
Students tend to forget most of the lessons taught in the classroom. So, UA has adopted an approach to make them remember their course. After immediate second term examination, students are made to deliver a lecture on whatever they have been taught from the beginning of the session. This is a part of the academic exercise.
Education tours/Field trips
Students are taken to tours/trips for the research oriented practical examinations as required in their syllabus.
Handout system
In order to assist students in their study, the teachers of related subjects provide handouts as supporting materials on given lesson. But students have to prepare their own notes referring to the class lectures, textbooks, reference books and the handouts.
Homework projects
UA believes that revision is the key technique to remember the textual concepts. That's why we always assign students as much homework as possible. Homework is checked and returned promptly each week for each subject. This helps the students to keep pace with their studies.
Debates and presentation
This is an extension of the Student as a Tutor Programme. UA encourages interested students to take up public speaking. Excellent performers of the Student as a Tutor Programme are engaged in debates and presentations on selected issues of public concern. This is a part of the extra-curricular activities. Students are encouraged to participate in talks and presentations outside the college.
Interactionwith parents and guardians
UA has a tradition of regular interaction with parents and guardians. After each terminal examination, the Principal, Academic In-charge, Coordinators and the concerned faculty subject teachers discuss the academic performance of the student with his/her parent or guardian. The interaction with parents and guardians is also undertaken when students have serious problems with their studies, discipline and irregularities in their classes.
Evaluation scheme
UA has designed an evaluation system of its own. In order to assess students’ progress, UA will hold one Unit test, two Saturday tests and three Terminal examinations. Class tests are held regularly in each subject. The final evaluation of students consists of the following criteria:
I Terminal Examination 15%
II Terminal Examination 25%
III Terminal (Send-up) Examination 50%
Homework and other assignments 10%
Students must obtain 40% marks to pass each subject.
Practical examination
Before the final examination of practical work, there will be a send-up examination to ensure their practical efficiency in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Hotel Management, Mass Communication and Population Studies. This will help students to revise their practical works.
Scholarship and award
We offer scholarships to brilliant students after examining certain basic conditions. This is a also facility given to economically weak students so that they could pursue their higher studies.
Scholarships are provided on the following criteria:
-100% scholarship on tuition fee and admission fee is awarded to the three topper of Entrance exam in Science, Commerce and Humanities each faculty.
-100% tuition fee and 35% admission fee are waived to three students who have obtained 88% or above marks in SLC. This is granted on first come first basis during admission.
- 50% tuition fee and 75% admission fee are granted to 10 students who have obtained 85% to 87% marks in SLC. This is also conditioned by first come first basis.
-50% tuition fee and 50% admission fee are granted to 10 students who have obtained 80% to 84% in SLC conditioned by first come first basis.
Every year "Best Student Award" for Class XI and Class XII is given to first, second and third students of each faculty. Selection is made on the basis of competition exam results held annually.
In order to encourage students in their studies, UA gives Academic Awards to those students who secure 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in every terminal examination. The Academy also awards scholarships to students who secure 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in Higher Secondary Examination Board (HSEB) examination (in class XI) in each faculty; 100% scholarship for 1st, 50% for 2nd and 25% for 3rd are awarded. Prizes are given to students who secure the position from 4th to 10th in the HSEB Examination.
Student Service
Visiting Professors or Scholars
This is another tradition at UA. We know that students today need not only book based teachings but also advice and counseling by specialists in different fields. Keeping this in view, we have established a tradition of holding educational seminars where well-known personalities come and deliver lectures at UA premises. Speakers come from various disciplines such as arts, science, commerce, legal and civil disciplines.
Student council
UA believes that students should be given opportunity for development of individual skills. For enhancing their skill, UA has a student council. The council has representatives from each faculty. The Student Council encourages students to participate in different college activities. The Student Council is also responsible for publishing the tri-monthly Newsletter and the annual magazine of the Academy.
Extra curricular activities
Games such as basketball, football, volleyball, table tennis, chess etc. meet the students’ need of extra curricular activities. Players aspiring to go for various sports are given special facilities. Students can also take part in other cultural and educational activities like poetry, music, debate and quiz competitions organized within college or outside college.
Counseling department
A Counseling Department has been established to address students problems of different nature: academic, disciplinary and personal to help them solve the problems. This department is responsible for guiding students in every aspect of life in the process of career building. On the other hand, Nepalese students, trying to study abroad, face a lot of problems in selecting the right institution or course or in passing the TOEFL and IELTS examinations. It will provide students with guidance about career paths to choose in foreign countries.
TOEFL preparation
UA offers free TOEFL preparation classes by experienced teachers for interested Class XII students after their final HSEB examinations.
Computer courses
People, today would be illiterate without the knowledge of computer. With this in view the Academy has introduced the introductory computer courses for all students.
United talent hunt
This is a known fact that all our students are not going to pursue academic careers. The present age offers challenges as well as chances. There are many openings for many professions, why not try! UA with the cooperation of United College, United School, past and present students organizes a Talent Hunt Competition (UTH) every year on dance, song, speech, poetry and quiz. This competition aims at identifying students talent for future possible careers. Interested past and present students from United School, United Academy and United College are invited to come, participate and win attractive cash prizes and develop self confidence.
Computerized Accounting
UA has introduced Computerized Accountancy classes for Class XII commerce students after their final HSEB exam. This is computer presentation on various relevant accountancy information, which is prepared in order to help students work and understand Accountancy easily.
Facilities
Laboratory
The Academy has spacious and well - equipped laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science. Each student gets the necessary equipment separately. Laboratories are modern and spacious. A student can explore the realms of science and computer technology utilizing the facilities.
Library
UA has a good library with necessary texts and a variety of reference books. Books range from general to textual and provide good reading materials to students. Daily newspapers, magazines and periodicals published in Nepal and abroad are also available in the library.
Cafeteria
UA has its own cafeteria supplying hygienic food items at reasonable prices to the students. The cafe is clean, healthy and well furnished. It provides boiled and filtered water to students to avoid any water-borne diseases or health risks.
Excursion tours
Educational excursions are organized on biology, population studies, sociology and hotel management.
Infirmary
Students at UA can utilize the basic medical facilities available here. First-aid facilities are readily available for those students who need them in an emergency.
Hostel accommodation
UA provides hostel accommodation having all necessary facilities. The hostel has a good environment for studies. Students needing extra academic guidance are provided with extra classes, regular tuitions without additional costs. Pre-terms and pre-board exams will be conducted before terminal and board exams for well preparation. Students can enjoy facilities like good food, spacious bedrooms, television and telephone on weekends. Games like basketball, gyms, badminton, volleyball, chess and table tennis are available for hostel students.
Transportation
Students living in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur can use the transportation facilities of the Academy. Transportation use should be registered during admission time.
Computer with internet
Students can use internet facilities.
Discipline Practice
UA sincerely believes that quality education comes with discipline. UA does not compromise on violation of college code of conduct, dress code, academic code, examination code and code of discipline by any student. All students must abide by the above codes of the Academy.
The following are codes of conduct at UA for maintaining a high degree of discipline.
-Attendance of students in all classes will be recorded daily at first hour.
-No student will be allowed to enter the college premises without proper uniform and neat hair cut.
-Wearing jewellery, cosmetics, growing and coloring nails are not allowed.
-All students must enter and leave the Academy premises on prescribed time.
-The student responsible for it must compensate any damage caused to the property of UA .
-Students should be holding identity cards while at the college.
-Students are prohibited from bringing materials like mobile, periodicals, magazines, CDs, MP3 cassettes, photographs, pictures.
-Students are strictly prohibited from smoking, love affair, physical fighting, consumption of alcoholic and toxic substances. Incase, students in uniform or in college, are found guilty of violating this code, they are expelled from the college without any consideration.
Future plan
United Academy is planning to introduce different academic programmes. We are going to establish affiliations with foreign universities so that the graduates of UA can be sent directly to them with provision of partial scholarships. Memorandum of Understanding has already been signed between UA and the Kent State University, USA to this effect. The following programmes will set according to priority:
