1. Job Title: Travel Trainer
2. Primary Purpose of post:To support learners on a travel training programme to develop ability and confidence in the use of public or other forms of transport.
3. Supervisory responsibilities:Support volunteers associated with the programme.
4. Reports to:LiftProgramme Leader
5. Liaises with:
5.1 Internally: Occupational Therapy/ACT Team, College Transport, other teams as required.
5.2 Externally: Referral organisations, schools, FE Colleges, residential providers, keyworkers, support workers, parents, carers, Youth Offending Service and other stakeholders as required,including other Travel Training schemes
6. Main duties and responsibilities
- To manage a caseload and provide support and guidance to learnersto enable them to access public and /or school transport.
- Provide opportunities to encourage and enable learners to develop and apply their skills in realistic scenarios
- Provide educational assistance to groups or individual participants in delivered sessions under the direction of the Lift Trainer.
- To actively work with the Lift Programme Leader to develop the programme to meet clear outcomes.
- To work closely with key partnership agencies and potential referral agencies, to advise and verify suitability of referrals against agreed criteria.To work with the Lift Programme Leader to recruit learners through developing marketing materials and attending promotional events, contacting families and supporting with assessments.
- To monitor, assess and record learners progress towards goals identified with their travel mentor
- Liaise with learners, parents, carers, probation officers and other stakeholders on effective delivery of programme for timings and availability of learners
- Inform and update parents, carers and other stakeholders of learner’s progress towards targets.
- To cover for absent colleagues including delivery of training activities where appropriate
- To support opportunities for embedded functional skills where appropriate and in partnership with other agencies.
- Contribute to the collection of data in relation to performance reporting, including outputs and outcomes agreed as part of the Service Level Agreement and Operational Plan
- Provide transport support, including driving and escort duties as required, either directly or through liaison with external agencies, considering cost efficient and environmental factors.
- To work in a flexible pattern to meet the requirements of delivering the programme and participants achieving their goals
- To participate in quality assurance systems in place including review and development and appraisal
- To provide a secure, safe and welcoming learning environment following risk assessments in line with Learning and Skills Council Safe Learner guidelines and college’s health and safety policy
- To follow best practice procedures and work efficiently within the team associated with programme
- To work with reference to the Disability Discrimination Act parts 3 and 4 ensuring reasonable adjustments are made to enable access to learning, goods and services for participants and stakeholders
- To promote equality of opportunity, recognition of diversity and adult status with all stakeholders associated with the programme
- Promote and adhere to the organisation’s Health and Safety at Work policy and procedures.
- To support and promote the organisation’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
- To undertake such other duties as may be required by the Director of Business Development, Principal or Chief Executive.
6. Developmental responsibilities
- To work with the Programme Leader on the introduction of new projects related to independent travel training.

Attribute
/ Essential / DesirableExperience / Familiarity of education, training or residential care environments.
