This training is for ministers, candidates and others who visit and support the sick

10.30 am – 3pm

The trainers will present in English, and translation from Welsh will be provided at other times. The course is open to all denominations.

Course content:

We will consider

-The difference between palliative care and end of life care

-Representing God and the church with those facing death

-What to do and what not to do – practical skills

There will be a choice of seminars:

-Diane Holmes –When the end of life comes slowly - valuing the third and fourth ages and those with dementia'. Considering pastoral care of older people and specifically of those with dementia, and their carers.

-Gary Windon –

-Kate McClelland – Practical skills in pastoral care

Trainers–

Rev Kate McClelland–Kate has recently moved to Bangor as minister of the Methodist church. Previously she wasHead of Spiritual and Pastoral Care with Leicester NHS Trust, leadingtheChaplaincy team and helping train chaplains and volunteers. She has an MSc in Palliative Care (the first non-medical person to achieve this). Her book ‘Call the Chaplain’ was published in 2014.

Rev Gary Windon - Gary has worked as a minister with the PCW, Methodist and Anglican churches as well as being a chaplain at Glan Clwyd and the Wrexham Maelor Hospitals. For 8 years he has been Chaplain to Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham. Gary has an MSc in Interdisciplinary Palliative Care.

Rev Diane Holmes – Until recently a Baptist minister with special responsibility for care of the elderly in Ashby de la Zouche. Diane now lives in Anglesey providing retreat ministry. She has a PhD in Theology specialising in the Spirituality of Older People.
