Let Their Lives Speak

Beginning with our keynote speaker, Gillian Sorensen, Senior Advisor at the United Nations Foundation, speakers include prominent women who are involved in many different aspects of international affairs through the U.N., the press, the US State Department, andFortune 500 companies.

Learn about the lives and careers of successful women through our “Pathways of Empowerment”. What they foresaw themselves doing in college and how they came to where they are now.

“Hearing the stories of the other participants, as well as your stories - and hopes and dreams - was a gift to me. And the opportunity to share my story was a gift too.”

-From Rozanne Oliver, Former Senior policy coordinator, Global Partnership,

US Department of State

WIWAC seeks to introduce undergraduates to prominent women who have forged successful careers in the area of international affairs

April 25th -27th, 2008Smith College, Northampton, MA

What is WIWAC?

Smith Model United Nations (SMUN) is honored to invite distinguished women from a variety of internationally based political, humanitarian, environmental, and media organizations to our 2nd WIWAC conference.

The experiences of these reputed women surrounding critical issues are of particular relevance to Smith’s socially aware and politically active student body. SMUN strongly believes that WIWAC will affirm the interests of many young women who would like to pursue careers in this field as well as encourage a deeper awareness of international affairs.

Established 15 years ago by dedicated and enthusiastic Smith students, SMUN has committed itself to engaging its members in discussions on current affairs. It is our hope to promote better understanding of the international events, the United Nations, and its mechanisms for managing international peace and security.

In recent years, we have held on-campus debates and panel discussions as well as expand the scope of our activities to include participation in Model United Nations conferences. A culturally diverse group of students, SMUN members are unified by our firm interest in international issues.

We encourage you to take this unique opportunity to converse with our esteemed panelists.

All the best to the seniors as you launch into next steps! I hope that the SWAC will keep up the conference. Please feel free to direct SWAC members to me if I can be helpful in exploring opportunities in Washington.”
