Special Libraries Roundtable E-Council Annual Report - February 2014
Submitted by Jodi Jacques, Chair
RegardingSLRT’s focus onits two priorities for 2013-2014, please note the updates in bold:
- Greater utilize SLRT as a vehicle to connect Special Libraries in Alaska.
There are many special libraries in the state, and each has offerings of value to other special libraries. SLRT can help make these connections by 1. Asking for special libraries to announce their events, news, or programs on the SLRT listserv or ask the SLRT Chair to forward these announcementsfor them, and 2. Reaching out to special libraries around the state; increase their visibility and awareness of this network.
As Chair I have utilized the SLRT listserv more in forwarding announcements and/or events, and have made an effort to use it in a more direct way of communicating to recipients.
- Produce at least one program for the 2014 AkLA Conference.
Ideas for possible programs includes a session on working in tiny libraries, resources available to run a small library, a basic management or leadership training session, a time for SLRT members to network, put together a page or handout of resources for small libraries, utilize SLA, copyright training, SLA certificates, and Google+ hangout.
Special Libraries are being represented at the AkLA Conference in a variety of ways, including:
- The Alaska Court System Law Library, The National Archives, and the Anchorage Museum are stops on The Downtown Walking Tour
- 800# Interlibrary Loan & Reference Backup Service: What, Why, and How? session
- Alaska Legislative Information 101 conversation starter*
- The Relevance of Tribal Libraries speaker
- Special Libraries Roundtable annual meeting*
*denotes a program produced directly by SLRT efforts
Advice/ideas for future SLRT Chair:
- Use the listserv to urge members to submit conference proposals
- Touch base with members via the listserv on a quarterly basis – ask for news or updates from their area (programs, staff updates, etc.)
- Use the listserv to highlight a special library periodically (perhaps monthly?)
