Literacy & Communication
(Speaking and listening, language and literacy) / Go to the library or use a computer under the supervision of an adult. What can you find out about pirates? Photograph or write some notes from the books. / Write instructions on how to find hidden treasure. / Use the ‘phonics play’ website to play buried treasure phonics game. / Write a story set at sea.
Maths & Problem Solving
(Maths, thinking skills, Logic, Problem solving) / Design a pirate ship using 2d shapes. / Make up some pirate word problems. E.g. Pirate Pete has 5 coins and Captain Hook has 2 more coins than Pirate Pete. How many coins has Pirate Hook got altogether? / Draw different length swords and order them from shortest to longest.
/ Sort treasure into groups and discuss which group has the most and which group has the least.

Science and the Outside environment (Science, PE, Healthy lifestyles, Eco issues and investigation) / Create a menu for a healthy pirate meal. / Compare a pirate to a sea creature and discuss similarities and differences. / Draw and/or describe some of the animals you may find at sea or on a pirate ship? Are they mammals, reptiles, fish, bird? / Create a pirate dance or jig.

Humanities and Citizenship
(RE, History, Geography, Moral & Social and Economic Awareness) / Write a fact file about a famous pirate.
/ Look at a treasure island and Label human (man-made) and physical (natural) features. / Write a recipe for ‘how to be a good pirate’.
e.g. 1 scoop of kindness, a pinch of cheekiness… / ‘My Special Treasure Box’
Make up a special treasure chest with things that are special to you. Write a list of these special things.
Creative Arts
(Art, Design & technology, Music, Drama & Dance) / Make up a pirate song.
/ Make a mask or puppet to use in school. / If you have a computer you can use a graphics package to draw something related to treasure. / Make a 3D model of a pirate or a pirate ship.
ICT will be used where appropriate in all subjects
