Hello my name is Rani – Rani means queen in Hindi. Am I Indian you ask? I’m afraid not, but I have been to India and many other countries as well.

For the past few years, this queen has been stationary, busy raising a family of three children in the USA. (More on that later). With my youngest on the cusp of leaving home, I once again have the time to pursue my other loves, travel and learning from people, and to focus on my next big adventure, living between two hemispheres. Why must I live in two hemispheres you ask? Well, the answer to that brings me directly to my conundrum.

I AM A THIRD CULTURE (ADULT) KID.

Third culture kid (TCK) is a term used to refer to children who were raised in a culture outside of their parents’ culture(s) for a significant part of their developmental years. The definition is not constrained to describing only children, but can also be used to describe adults who have had the experience of being an ATCK (Adult Third Culture Kid).

Let me begin by telling you a little of my story. I was born in Australia to a New Zealand mother, and a father who is a naturalized Australian, but German by birth. The first languages I was exposed to were German and English.As a baby I moved to New Zealand where I lived till I was 8 years old.

Then I left New Zealand.

I travelled all over South East Asia, and eventually made it to Europe. I lived briefly in Greece, then Italy, followed by a couple of years in England, three in Germany, then five years in Egypt. I lived the life of a nomad. My home was literally wherever I was living, and I absorbed parts of the language and the culture as I went along.

Inbetween these relatively stable homes were many long trips in our trusty campervan where we made do with very little, and yet, it was always enough, and daily living becamea joyful adventure.

To add to my story, I fell in love with an American, and we lived and raised our children inAmerica. Thus, I became a fourth or fifth culture adult. My own childhood family is in New Zealand, and my children are in America.

My conundrum: To find a way to live a fulfilling life in both hemispheres.

My solution: To havea successful, roaming business or businesses, which I can run from anywhere at any time on my laptop.

I’m poised, I’m purposeful and I’m on a mission!

Therefore, I am packing up my life, together withmy skills, my experience, a short timeline, andan incomplete roadmap. I will record myprogress in this virtual trip book, full of promise and anticipation for the ventures and adventures ahead.
