Keeping colored facades cool

/

/ / / Surfaces exposed to the sun no longer need to be painted white to stay cool. CPS Color’s "Novapint™ D" solar-reflective colorants reduce heat build-up in multicolored architectural and decorative paint applications. They help to decrease energy costs while increasing the durability of construction materials. The new colorant range is an intelligent combination of conventional facade colorants and is compatible with synthetic resin, silicone and silicate-based paints and plasters.

Non-stick properties and chemical resistance

/

/ Additives for paints and varnishes in the form of 3M “Dyneon” PTFE Micropowder or “Novec” fluorosurfactants have been presented at the European Coatings Show. The range of products has been supplemented by “Dyneon” PTFE Dispersions and further additives, such as glass bubbles and ceramic microspheres plus surface finishes for glass and ceramics (easy clean coating). Fluorosurfactants as additives in paints, varnishes and adhesives have been helping to wet difficult surfaces and prevent defects in covering coatings. In addition to its tried and tested, non-ionogenic products the company now also offers an anionic fluorosurfactant (“FC-5120”). It is based on ammonium salt, so it is particularly easily soluble in water and thus mainly suitable for aqueous formulations. This spring, a cationic product variant which was specially developed for use in the acid pH range is also to be launched.

Diatomaceous earth – now in hydrophobic form too

/

/ / / Damolin offers the natural diatomaceous earth “Danamol”, mined from its own deposits plus other fillers such as white and grey bentonite, perlite and vermiculite for many industrial applications. A totally new development will be hydrophobic “Danamol” products for specialist applications. Damolin process all the minerals in a number of factories to various powders and granules and delivers them worldwide. Diatomaceous earth is well known as a multi-purpose porous functional filler to solve many problems. Main applications are as a carrier and filler but also for anti-caking and flowability purposes, as a basis for composites and for different chemical reactions in the concrete area.

Bright and durable yellow shades

/

/ / / BASF presented its new products and services at the European Coatings Show 2013 in Nuremberg. One example is the Bismuth Vanadate pigment “Sicopal Yellow EH 1567” (L 1130). With features such as high colour strength, increased opacity and exterior durability, this new pigment is designed to meet the needs of the decorative, industrial and automotive coatings markets. It offers a solution for customers wanting a lead-free formulation of especially bright and durable yellow shades. The new dispersing agent “Dispex Ultra PX 4575” provides improved colour development and lower viscosities in order to help reduce pigment usage or increase pigment loading. This product meets the requirements of the European eco-label for indoor and outdoor paints and varnishes (2009/544/EC and 2009/543/EC). With the new light stabilizer “Tinuvin 5333-DW”, the company offers, for the first time ever, a water-compatible blend of high performance UV-absorber and non-interacting HALS that has been specifically developed for water-based coatings.
