On Sunday, March 2, 2014, the Jr. Beta Club of Wartburg Central Middle School traveled to Nashville to attend the National Tennessee Beta Convention for three days and returned home on Tuesday, March 4th. At the convention, students on the trip participated in competitions, heard speeches from the officers of the National Beta club, and overall had a great time. This is the first time ever that the WCMS Beta Club has attended this regional convention and the bar was set pretty high.
The convention was held in the Opryland hotel, a very beautiful and unique hotel where most of the clubs that attended the convention stayed. There, students from all over the state participated in competitions. Our very own WCMS Beta students were no exception.
Alex Nelson participated in speech. Maddie Williams participated in a poetry contest. Lauren Farmer, Makayla Poland, Haylee Luttrell, and Allie Aytes participated in a poster contest. Luke Vespie competed in a Social Studies Competition. Adrean Hall competed in a Science Competition. Lukas Lasig submitted art for not one, but two Art Competitions; one for recycled art and the other for drawn art. Carol Barnett created a scrapbook for the Scrapbooking Competition. Raegen Aytes entered a Photography Contest with a stunning photograph of a lake. Baylee Stewart also entered photography with a breath-taking black and white photograph.
Proudly, in this, our first convention, students in two competitions placed; Battle of the Books and Wreaths. Isaiah Hamby, Jacob Ralston, and Kaitlyn Carroll participated in a quiz game based on twelve books that the participants were required to read. Jacob, Isaiah, and Kaitlyn placed third out of fifty-five teams. Madison Hamby participated in a Wreath Contest with a gorgeous homemade wreath, carefully constructed down to the last detail. Madison Hamby placed third also and is able to take her wreath to Nationals where it will be judged against more wreaths.
We congratulate those students that placed and all of our members who dedicated time and effort to their respective competitions. Job well done. All students represented the Beta Club well and were on their very best behavior, being polite and even being bragged on by a National Beta Club sponsor.
Sponsors of the WCMS BETA club, Ms. Erin Clabough, Ms. Megan Lamance, and Mrs. Tonya Lowe, would also like to thank chaperones who attended the trip for taking such good care of the students. The students had a good time and learned lots.
Students were able to interact with other Beta clubs and make new friends, have fun with members of their own Beta club, and hear from sponsors and officers of the National Beta club. The WCMS Beta Club plans to attend the convention again next year. The convention is an amazing experience all around and one every Beta member should experience.
