Resolution in Honor of

Janette Hales Beckham

Member of the Board of Trustees

Utah Valley University

2004 – 2011

WHEREAS, Janette Hales Beckham served faithfully and provided leadership and commitment as a member of the Board of Trustees for Utah Valley University since 2009, including two years as chair between 2007 and 2009; and

WHEREAS, she gave unrelenting service not only in the formal role as a trustee, but also as an active, vocal and enthusiastic advocate for UVU in the community; and

WHEREAS, she pulled from a political background that includes service in the Utah State Legislature to help UVU navigate the political complexities inherent in the state higher education landscape; and

WHEREAS, she gave of her own means to provide financial support to UVU and has helped UVU cultivate relationships with other generous donors to build the institution’s academic and support programs; and

WHEREAS, her perspective and expertise was invaluable, and the institution’s faith in her abilities was evidenced by her selection for service on key committees, including the annual Awards of Excellence nominating group and the committee that held a national search before selecting Matthew S. Holland to become UVU’s sixth president; and

WHEREAS, her optimism and magnetic personality have been infectious; and

WHEREAS, the value of her friendship cannot be overstated;

Therefore, be it resolved that the Board of Trustees of Utah Valley University takes official recognition of Janette Hales Beckham and her dedicated service and contribution to the Board of Trustees, the University, its students and the community, and hereby extends statement of appreciation; and

Be it further resolved that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and conveyed to Trustee Hales Beckham, with a copy to be incorporated in the official minutes of the April 21, 2011, meeting of the Utah Valley University Board of Trustees. Realized this sixteenth of June, 2011, in Orem, Utah.
