Atlantic Ocean – Voyage Through Time

Step 1
You will now measure the distance across the Atlantic Ocean
- To be successful you must measure the distance across the Atlantic Ocean in the same place on each slide. You may use your Geography book to assist in this part of the activity.
- Locate the eastern most point along the east coast of South America. This is the arrow “A”. You should be in eastern Brazil. Mark this point with a “•”.
- Locate arrow “B” west coast of Africa. This is arrow “B”. You should be near Nigeria. Mark this point with a “•”.
- Put a dot in the same spots on slides.(2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20). You should end up with 2 dots on each slide.
Step 2:
It is now time to begin measuring the distance across.
- Draw a straight line across the Atlantic Ocean between the two points (A and B) you marked on each slide. You will be using the centimeter side of the ruler
- Measure the distance in centimeters(Example 2.4 cm) and put the information in the table below
