Rev. Dr. Rafe M. Taylor Scholarship Application 2013
The National Capital Baptist Congress of Christian Education Program was established in 1976. In 1992, the scholarship award was named in honor of the late Rev. Dr. Rafe M.Taylor, the sixth pastor of Mount Airy Baptist Church, Washington, DC. Under Rev. Taylor’s, tutorage many young people were called to the gospel ministry.
Application
Applications must be typedin double space format, without initials or abbreviations.The applicant should review his/her answers and essay carefully.E-mail or faxed application packages are acceptable. The scholarship awards ceremony will be held during the closing program of the May 2013 Christian Education Congress. Awardees are required to be present.
Essay
Prepare an organized essay of 300-500 words with your name in upper right-hand corner on the subject: “HOW I WILL USE BY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE AND DEGREE TO FURTHER THE KINGDOM OF GOD”.
The application package which includes the application, essay, transcripts and letters of reference must be postmarkedby April 15th, 2013.
Selection Criteria
The Rev. Dr. Rafe M. Taylor Scholarship is providedto delegates of constituent churches in good standing with the National Capital Baptist Convention Washington DC and Vicinity.
- Applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent as of June 2013.
- Applicant must matriculate to a two or four year college/university in the fall of 2013.
- Applicant should be a member of a church in good standing with the Congress.
- Applicant must submit two letters of recommendation: one from the Pastor and one from a teacher/counselor.
- Applicant should have participated in some form of Congress or other religious training.
- Applicant must submit an official letter of acceptance to a college/university prior to receiving the award.
- Applicant must submit official transcripts along with essay.
- Applicant should have a G.P.A. of at least 2.3 (cumulative) and above.
