Dear family of Joshua,
As Orientation Week for your student approaches, I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with additional information regarding The Honors Experience: A Pre-Orientation Program. The Honors Experience begins with move-in on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Recently, we emailed students to invite them to this program and to provide additional details about what to expect. If your student did not receive this email, please contact us at so that we can forward the email to him/her. The email also directed students to our website: www.rit.edu/academicaffairs/honors/incoming where we will be continuously updating our plans.
On Tuesday, August 22, 2017, RIT’s New Student Orientation begins. Please refer to the New Student Orientation website for more details. The Honors Experience focuses on the Honors Program, while also building and promoting community relationships among Honors students. New Student Orientation is focused on transition, academic advising, making connections with the faculty and staff as well as making friends. At the end of both programs, your student will be comfortably settled in and ready to meet the challenges of college life.
We have arranged for family sessions on Saturday, August 19 to answer your questions about the Honors Program from 2:00-3:00 pm with our three Lead Mentors and myself. This will be followed by the session “Becoming an RIT Parent” from 3:00-4:30 pm. Later, Family Orientation will be scheduled for August 22-23 and a schedule will be made available. While some parents may be able to attend both programs, we understand this is not always possible. If you cannot attend Family Orientation, you can connect to parent resources by signing up for the parent newsletter (www.rit.edu/parents/subscribe) and visiting the Parent and Family Programs website.
If you plan to attend the Family Program during New Student Orientation, there will be opportunity to connect with your student after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22. A good place to meet is the Resource Fair in the Polisseni Center, where campus offices are available to answer your questions about dining, housing, financial aid, parking and transportation, student employment, and more.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any further information or questions answered and visit our site regularly for updates - www.rit.edu/academicaffairs/honors/incoming.
We look forward to seeing you and your student in August.
Sincerely,
Dr. Danielle Smith
Director, RIT Honors Program
