Invention Convention Project Guidelines
Due February 14th (P) & 15th (R)
1. Your invention must meet the following definition:
An invention must have utility; it must solve a real problem. It is something that no one has ever made before. It cannot be purchased in a store or found in a book! An invention may be a non-obvious improvement to an existing object that yields new utility.
2. The cost should not exceed $50. Inventors are encouraged to use recycled materials.
3. The invention must be accompanied by a self-standing display board (requiring no more than 2 ft. of table space) that includes the following information:
· The title of the invention
· A description of the problem the invention solves
· A description of how the invention works
· At least 4 pictures with captions
· Print advertisement (if that is the format you have chosen)
Ø Other formats include video or website advertisement
· Bibliography (at least 2 sources)
Remember this is the invention’s introduction to the world. Do your best work!
4. The invention must fit in a space that is two feet by two feet; larger inventions should be represented by a model.
5. The inventor must submit a logbook that includes:
· Table of Contents that includes the numbered pages for following sections.
· Materials List (with prices)
a. you may include receipts in this section
· Dated entries of progress; this should include any or all of the following:
a. brainstorming/ideas
b. sketches/diagrams/pictures
c. failed and successful attempt notes
d. trials and revisions to design
· Reflections (must be written in paragraph format and explained in detail)
a. ways to improve
b. problems encountered
This is just an example. You do not have to follow this format exactly but you must include the main sections and number all of your pages.
