Absent:Wilma Aerts, Joyce ten Berge

Report:Wil Luijten

From the Operational Committee meeting of 07/05/07

  • Ruling: further to the debate on the distribution of funds via output within the different boxes, the Executive Board has stated that no change to the system will be made.
  • In collaboration with the external bureau ‘Eden’, a first initiative has been made towards the development of a brand concept for TU Delft. The core element ‘Change the script’ was not well received. The heart of the TU brand must be formulated more distinctly.

Visitation committee feedback

The Dean compliments Jan Jacobs, Ellen Bos and those involved in the visitation for their thorough and sound preparation. Partly as a result of this preparation, on a number of areas for particular attention the committee has expressed an extremely positive opinion on teaching and degree programmes.

General announcements

Further to an e-mail from Norbert Roozenburg on teaching outside the faculty, opinion is somewhat divided as to whether this should be permitted. There is general agreement that it should be stated that it is undesirable that this should take place on a large scale, in the light of the busy year to come.

Progress of the introduction of the new Bachelor’s degree and the organisational consequences

Jan Schoormans envisages problems regarding the deployment of people from his department. He does not have enough staff. Daan van Eijk has appointed two people to look at the Bachelor’s and Master’s subjects in relation to staffing in the department. Jan Jacobs will raise this matter in the Personnel Committee.

Budget for practicals in the Bachelor’s degree programme
The Management Team has decided to honour Joost Prins’ request for financial assistance for practicals in the Bachelor’s degree programme, as described in his application.

Master’s degree programmes calendar

The Management Team agrees to the Personnel Committee’s proposal to organise the Master’s degree programmes according to a schedule of 4 x 10 teaching weeks, as set down in Niset Schlotter’s memorandum of 20 April 2007. Pointing out certain areas for attention, the Board of Studies and Faculty Student Council have made a positive recommendation.

Participation in Design United in Dutch Design Week and contact person

The Management Team has decided to participate in the exhibition Design United 2007 during the Dutch Design Week (20-28 October 2007). The Management Team will ask Timo de Rijk to act as contact person for the faculty.

Research Committee (CWB) remarks on the Research Advisory Board (RAB) recommendations

The Research Committee’s suggestion to organise the Research Day in connection with the PhD Day is considered to be too great a burden. The intention is to involve Twente and Eindhoven in the PhD Day on 4 October.

Decisions concerning hospitality declarations and honorary appointments

It is agreed that IDE will offer an honorary appointment to staff from the EU and a hospitality declaration to those from beyond the EU. In the next meeting, Wilma Aerts will be asked to provide further explanation of the list of staff members with a hospitality declaration or honorary appointment.
