The Grant County Board of Commissioners is immediately accepting and reviewing all applications for the position of County Safety Director and Emergency Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION; COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGER: The Grant County Office of Emergency Management is the managerial function charged with working alongside local Emergency Managers to createa framework within communities to reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters. The County Emergency Managermust have the vision to seek and promote safer, less vulnerable communities with the capacity to cope with hazards and disasters. The County Emergency Manager will work in coordination with Federal, State and Local officials during federally declared disasters managing all disaster reporting and financial documents.

MISSION; GRANT COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGER: The Grant County Office of Emergency Management protects communities by coordinating and integrating all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other man-made disasters.

JOB DESCRIPTION; COUNTY SAFETY DIRECTOR: The County Safety Director is responsible for the management of local District Safety Directors and promoting a safe work environment for all county employees. The Director will drive county employee culture towards continuous improvement in overall county employee safety performance. The Director will develop, implement, train and enforce safety programs to maintain compliance laws, codes and regulations associated with Grant County Safety Policies. The Safety Director, working in conjunction with local Safety Directors investigates all accidents or injuries, complete all necessary investigative and reporting paperwork to Grant County Commissioners and the County Claims of Oklahoma. The Director will be responsible for the reporting of all workmen’s compensation claims and maintenance of the Department of Labor 300 Log and subsequent yearly reports.

MISSION; COUNTY SAFETY DIRECTOR: The Office of Grant County Safety is a resource of trained safety directors who serve Grant County employees. This team is an aggressive resource dedicated to reducing injuries, accidents and environmental impact, and ensuring compliance. The team achievesgoals through high quality training, comprehensive workplace evaluation, emergency response, hazardous materials management from acquisition to disposal, and by managing regulatory information.

  • Progressive: During safety site inspections and investigations of incidents leading to injury, anticipate future events leading to possible injuries and recommend preventative and preparatory measures to mitigate or defeat future incidents leading to injury.
  • Risk Driven: Use sound risk management principles (hazard identification, risk analysis and impact analysis) in assessing training needs of county employees.
  • Integrated: Ensure unity of effort among all local safety directors and local government officials
  • Collaborative: Create and sustain broad, sincere relationships among local safety directors, county employees and government officials to encourage trust, advocate a team atmosphere, build consensus and facilitate communication
  • Coordinated: Synchronize the activities of all relevant stakeholders to achieve a common purpose of a safe work environment
  • Flexible: Use creative and innovative approaches in solving risky behavior and safety challenges
  • Professional: Value a science and knowledge-based approach based on education, training, experience, ethical practice, public stewardship and continuous improvement

REQUISITES FOR COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGER AND SAFETY DIRECTOR:

  • Possess an excellent ability to read, comprehend and summarize reports regarding disasters or incidents.
  • Possess the confidence and ability to speak in public.
  • Possess the ability to write comprehensive training lessons, reports, letters, summaries and press releases.
  • Possess investigative skills
  • Possess excellent ability to work with computer search engines, software applications (spreadsheets, word documentation, presentations) and smart devices.
  • Possess ability to create, present, justify and manage budget accounts.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to be self-motivated with minimal supervision
  • Possess the ability to respond 24/7 during emergency situations and to be on an “on call status” at all times
  • Possess the ability, confidence and professionalism to be the representatives of the citizens and government officials of Grant County in all places and at all times
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Preferred knowledge of NIMS and ICS protocol and procedures
