Grading Policy 2016-2017
NORTH PENN HIGH SCHOOL GRADING SCALE
The grading scale that will be used in all courses will include a “plus” designation for grades of C or higher. The grade of D will be the equivalent of 65% - 69%.
Grading Scale for Marking Periods Final Course Grades
A+ 97 – 100% A+ - D course averages parallel the marking period grades.
A 90 – 96% E 50 – 64% (Remediation permitted)
B+ 87 – 89% F Below 50% (Remediation not permitted)
B 80 – 86%
C+ 77 – 79%
C 70 – 76%
D 65 – 69%
F Below 65%
Mid-term Exam
The Mid-Term Exam will count 10% of the grade of the second marking period.
Final Exams (Full Year Courses) Final Exams (Semester Courses)
21% for each marking period 40% for each marking period

All numeric averages will be rounded to the nearest whole number.

Grading Policy 2016-2017
The Quarterly Grade will be a cumulative grade of the following:
Tests: Tests are given after completion of each chapter.
Quizzes: Oral, written, and listening quizzes may be given weekly.
Journal: Students are expected to record daily journal in class. This will be collected and graded in each marking period.
Participation: Students are expected to speak in Japanese as they learn new vocabulary and phrases, and participate in all pair, group, and class activities.
Homework: Homework is checked each day in class for completion and for corrections.
Home Access: Students are expected to keep a tally sheet and compare it using the Home Access center.

Teacher Website: Students are expected to utilize the teacher website to check daily class work, homework, online homework/practice, and quiz/test schedule. http://www.npenn.org/557820317102237917/site/default.asp
Culture Presentation: Students may participate in cultural research projects. This is an optional project - a short summary composition and PowerPoint presentation are required.
Special Projects: There will be special projects due during the year pertaining to what we are studying (e.g., Haiku writing with special Sumi ink/brush, lab work - short essay typing in Japanese, etc.)
Book Cover Requirement: Students will bring a jumbo stretch book cover to protect their textbooks.
