4th Grade Overnight Field trip

Important Information

For All Students!

March 9/10

·  All students will only be able to bring one backpack for clothes and personal items, a refillable water bottle, a small string bag or fanny pack for the trail, and a trash bag with a sleeping bag, pillow, extra trash bag, and optional fitted twin sheet. Do not have your child bring a suitcase with wheels…the trails leading to the cabins are unpaved and rocky. All items need to be clearly marked with your child’s name. Please place a piece of masking tape or duct tape on the outside of your trash bag and write your child’s name using a permanent black marker. Please see the suggested packing list on the Silver Spur Edlio page!

·  Students will need to bring a snack to take with them on the bus. This snack will be eaten upon arrival at the mission.

·  I suggest they bring a chapter book with them. They may want to have it on the bus for something to do. There will be quiet time in the cabin before dinner and they may also have time in the evening before bed and early in the morning.

·  For the trail, students should have the following in a small fanny pack or string bag for items they may want to bring; lip balm (it can be very dry in the canyon where the camp is located), water bottle, camera, and sunscreen. For the bus ride they may want to also put these items into their small bag; their snack for when we arrive at the mission, a book to read, pencil/paper to draw or play games, a deck of cards, etc. It’s takes about an hour to get to San Juan Capistrano.

·  All students will need to be at school wearing their spirit shirt, sunscreen, and a hat on Thursday, March 9th, no later than 7:30 am. Students will be asked to leave their luggage and trash bag with parent helpers near the drop off/pick up area then proceed to their classroom. Luggage will be loaded on to the buses while the students meet in their individual classrooms to get activity group assignments. It does not matter what bus your luggage goes on. We have a special system of off-loading the bus when we get to camp. You will be reunited with your luggage before being assigned and sent to your cabins.

·  Their water bottle, snack, and fanny pack/string bag should be kept by the student when they come to the classrooms to be sorted into their groups. They will keep it with them in the bus.

·  NO PHONES or any type of electronics will be allowed! One flashlight and a disposable/not expensive camera are the only exceptions!

·  No extra food is permitted! You will be inviting wild animals into your cabin!
